running a backup on new computer

Hi all,

This is my first experience with this so bear with me as i think i have it figured out. I backed up my MBP using time machine on an external HD. i got a new iMac but when i set it up yesterday i didnt have the backup ready to install. so i went to migration assistant and did it that way. now the apps are in the apps folder but that its. i noticed in the user folder that the user from my macbook is there. do i just sign in and out using that account now and not the one i created while setting up my imac?

I thought that was the case but didnt know if i was missing something.

when i searched i found stuff telling me how to do the backup and install, threads about itunes files, iphone backups, contacts... pretty much everything but what im sure is a very simple question... probably didnt dig quite deep enough but thanks for the quick response.
