Hi

I have tried to search for this one in here, but could not find anything.

When I have set my watch for a 2400m run, I would like to have a precise time for the run.

However, I do not stop exactly on the finish line and stop the clock. Of course, I run through the finish line, all I can, and then I after 20 meters further her throwing my lungs up :)

Then I notice that the watch just continues, even if it is set to 2400 meters.

Is it really true that I can not get a correct time? Is there another app that is better for running than Apple's own?
 
I don't know if any app that will automatically stop a run for you.

The closest thing would be of you use auto pause and stop right at (or a little bit after) the finish line.

Another thing I just thought of. The GPS isn't quite that accurate. I'm assuming that you're running on a track that's measured at 400 meters. More than likely, the GPS will not be at 2400 meters right at the finish line.

Yah I think you’re gonna have to pause the run. Not too hard to do though, just hit both side buttons at the same time and it will pause your run.

Oh thats smart. But what does "new lap" actually mean. What will it do?

I am actually just using the gps to measure the distance, due to that I'm running in the nature. I just can't se, why I can set the distance to 2400 meters, when it does nothing when reaching finish line. Then why set the distance...?

That is setting your minimum goal. I always use Open. Of course I also use a Gamin 620 since the Apple Watch is a GREAT general purpose/health/fitness watch but NOT a great running watch.

In your case it would log your time at double tap. I do this sometimes if I’m running a 10k or 15k I double tap at 5k and then can go back and look at my 5k time. It’s the best answer for what your wanting to do really. It will be listed under segments when you go back and look at that run on your phone.

Another thing is that if you export your data into a NikeRunClub (NRC), you can scrub through the map and see the cumulative time at an exact location. At least to the level of accuracy that your GPS provides. You would just scrub over to 2400 meters (I assume that if you record your run in km, the distance would show up in the map as km) and viola. This way, you wouldn't need to mess with the screen or buttons during a run.

NOTE - this is by no means a recommendation to use NRC. In fact, I would suggest against using NRC to record your run. There are ways to get your data onto NRC. The method that I currently use is to record my run using iSmoothRun. Then after the run, I export the data to Garmin Connect. My NRC account is linked with my Garmin account so that all runs that show up in Garmin, get auto-transferred to NRC.

Is it convoluted? Yes it is, but this is the best method that I've found for me. YMMV.

Thanks. Thats usefull but pritty heavy sollution. I think the Apple app should show a time for the dialed 2400m as it does for every 1 km on the iPhone.

I can almost guarantee that Apple will never have 2400 m as a lap interval. It's been 2 years and they still don't have 33-1/3 meter as a pool length.

I think your best bet would be to find an app that allows you to adjust the lap interval. I checked my usual suspects and none of them allow for adjusting the lap distance. Perhaps this is a feature of WorkOutDoors app. The developer (@cfc) is very active on this forum and he takes feedback very seriously. Perhaps he could add this as a feature, if it's not already in there.

EDIT - took a screen shot of the WorkOutDoors website. Looks like you can set intervals to whatever distance you want for notifications.

That looks like a powerfull app. What I meant with the 2400m interval was, that the Apple app should make a time interval at the distance, that you type in for your run. Othervise I can't see, why I should type in the distance.

I will look further to the Workoutdoors app thanks :)
