I've had an Apple Watch since the S0, but am increasing having issues with my S6. The biggest one when running is how inaccurate the GPS is. Newer watches fix this, but I also have concerns about fitness tracking and plans. Nike Run Club's runs are very static, and I often have issues accessing them from the watch. I'm looking at a Garmin possibly as a second watch just for running, or getting an AWU1/2 used.

What apps are people using for tracking runs, creating a workout plan and tracking recovery? I'm OK with subscription plans if necessary.

I generally wear a S7 now for daily wear and a Garmin 965 for running and overnight HRV tracking (and some days daily wear). I use Garmin’s daily suggested workouts to prep for races and haven’t found anything in the iOS ecosystem that compares when you combine the workouts and training/recovery data.

WatchOS11, probably next month, incorporates recovery doesn’t it?

Also, I’ll note that when I had my AWU2 I found the GPS tracking every bit as good as my Garmin. My S7 is just ok (I don’t rely on it for running), but the AWU 2 was top notch.

I’m using a AWU 2 with e-sim activated, and have a Garmin Epix pro as well.
For running I mostly wear my Garmin, and sometimes both 😉 The Garmin is my favorite for running, and that’s only because of the buttons (easier to use during winter 🥶), and way easier to program intervals weeks ahead.

So why do I use AWU2? I like the integration with Apple Health, e-sim so I don’t have to bring my phone, Apple Pay, all the health metrics and the whole Apple ecosystem.
For my Apple Watch ⌚️ I mostly use @Yourace by a guy called @rbart as an alternative to the built in app. For recovery info I use @bevel and the new app from Apple called Vitals and Training Loads.

In an ideal world, I would prefer an Apple Watch with buttons like on a Garmin.

Thanks for the additional input. Looks like there really isn't a wrong answer, I'm finishing up my training routine with my current watch, and then will see what the new AWU and WatchOS features have, as well as what the new Garmin watches do.

While Apple doesn't have suggested workouts it's not really a feature I would use anyway. I have a custom training plan moving towards my next marathon.

I have been using the beta for a while now, and it does finally incorporate your training load and show you if you keep it in line with previous weeks average etc.

Maybe not quite a Garmin Body Battery but pretty good actually

I would likely use another app if I stay with Apple, but the ongoing fees is something I need to consider.

Assuming this is regarding the watchOS 11 beta?

Great for quick glance on the watch and a little more detail on the phone app
