I’m running into an issue, I use an auto clicker to update and constantly refresh web browser content. I’m running high Sierra 10.13.6. I would like to shut off the display while allowing the auto clicker to refresh the web content continuously, this runs for hours on end.

When I adjust the monitor to not shut off discs and monitor, and hit control shift eject, the monitor shuts off, however the Mac makes error noises each time the auto clicker clicks in the browser. So essentially I assume it’s not actually clicking and refreshing the content.
Is there a way to run an auto clicker and completely shut off the monitor. I’ve tried everything.

I need to auto clicker to constantly refresh content in my web browser but don’t want to burn out my display since it has to run for hours on end.

I also use google chrome Remote Desktop to engage and monitor this activity, while the monitor is shut off, the screen is black on my Remote Desktop view as well. It would be ideal if I could see the auto clicker activity while the iMac desktop display is shut off, this would show me that the auto clicker is actually working. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your knowledge and input.

The problem is that the clicker sits on top of whatever is currently displayed on screen. In this specific case, it sits atop the lock screen and clicks constantly. Why don't you disable all energy saving features and simply turn down the iMac's display brightness? If I'm not mistaken the lowest screen brightness level actually shuts off the backlight entirely.

Thank you for the reply. That makes sense, however should I be concerned with the screen being constantly on? I recently updated it and it’s a 2009 iMac that I can’t update past the high Sierra, after I updated I have horizontal lines I can’t reset. I assumed it was from the system getting burned out from the screen being on constantly.

So I tested this, and unfortunately the auto clicker as you said is just clicking in a black screen. It’s not clicking the links within the web browser that I need it to click.

I’ve scoured the Internet trying to figure this out. I can easily do it on a pc. Set up auto clicker and shut off display, auto clicker runs just fine in the background continuing to update and refresh.
With Mac it’s an issue. I bought a new 2020 MacBook Pro today that arrives tomorrow. Now I’m really hoping I don’t have the same issue putting it in clamshell mode and getting it to run the auto clicker program that I need.
