This is so cool. :apple: It should work with the 3GS right?
What happens with the apps and the app data, will this be like a normal update and what happens if I can't pull it of? Can I restore from a backup to iOS 4 again?

Edit: Does it need iTunes 10.3 or 10.5?

It's could be cool to just see iOS 5 but you will not be able to activate the phone and use it on the cell network. For that you need a Dev account or have a friend with one place you UDID on it.

Every indication seems to be that the phone is fully functioning after you do this trick. Are you actually speaking from experience or just pulling this out of your butt??

EDIT: People are saying there is no connection to the carrier. You were totally right. Apologies.

Doesn't work for me. Extracts the file to install and then spits a "unknown error (3002).

Registered UDiD

I took a chance with eBay and paid $3.99 to register my UDID. It worked and now I'm running iOS5. Just go to eBay and I promise you will not be disappointed .

I wouldn't make a blanket statement like that. Use caution on eBay always. Look for someone who has lots of positive feedback.

I use eBay all the time to buy and sell.I checked the feedback and contacted the seller first and immediately after payment he emailed me and told me it was registered.

So I stupidly tried to do this and got the 3002 error. So then I tried to restore the iPhone with iOS 5 and now it will not let me activate my iPhone 4. Obviously, I understand it is my responsibility of what I do with software on my phone, but if anyone can tell me how/if I can downgrade back to 4.3.3 or get my iPhone to work again, I would really appreciate it. You can PM me if necessary, but yea, this was not worth losing an iPhone 4 over.

When I plug it into iTunes, it says I need 10.5 or later. I really hope there is so way to fix this.

It won't recognize my iPhone and therefore I can't restore back to 4.3.3. And I don't know about getting iTunes 10.5 without being a developer if I just tried to get iOS 5 without being a developer. :(

But yea, if anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

Can anyone verify this works, I'm sketchy trying it without some feedback

It works in the sense that you will bypass the activation screen but your phone won't be activated. You won't be able to use phone service, push notifications, or sync to iTunes.

Crisis averted. I downgraded from iOS 5 to 4.3.3 using the instructions at this link:

http://www.techtosh.com/downgrade-ios-5-beta-to-ios-4-3-3-for-iphone-ipod-touch/

I would not recommend this for most people as I had a troubling experience just now, but it was a blast seeing my iPhone 4 show the new PC-free activation screens and then the shock that came with the realization that I was stuck with a phone that didn't work.

Anyway, if anyone has the same issue as me (i.e. being dumb and not waiting for the official release) please see the link above for helpful instructions.

Alright, just renewed my dev account...just waiting for my activation email

Same here, waiting for that magical email. Wish I could register with another dev in the meantime to get started with it. I know, I'm impatient.

Thank you! It's always nice to know I can downgrade if I need to. I'm restoring to 5.0b1 (after registering my iPhone's UDID on my friend's developer account for FREE) with iTunes 10.5. If I decide I need to be jailbroken, I will downgrade with these instructions. Thank you SO MUCH!! :D
