Hello,

I had the chance to get one X5355 CPU for a good price to upgrade my old 5150 CPUs in my Mac Pro. Of course I would like to get a second 5355 to get 8 cores at the end but you never now when the next nice offer will apear :).

Now I ask myself if I should already replace both 5150s with this one 5355 CPU. Does the Mac Pro work with one CPU? Any consequences for the Memory? I have memory modules in all 8 slots, will the 2nd riser card still work even if one CPU is removed?

Thanks for your help,

Ronald

Check over at the insanelymac hardware forums and see if any one has done it there. Technically I believe there should be no issue but as with anything mac related it may not work as as it should.

You can always just take one of you old processors out to test it and put it back if it doesn't.
