Hello,

I wasn't sure where to post this but I decided to try it here.

Anyway I have been running lately with one of my friends who has an Android phone + a Samsung Galaxy Active watch. I use and Apple Watch and an iPhone and we both used Runtastic. We noticed that at the end of the run I have around 400m more on a 6km run. Then I decided to do some analysis and testing because I wasn't sure if Runtastic was the cause of this and went for a run yesterday with the following:

Apple Workout app on the watch - ended with 7.29km

Runtastic app on the phone - ended up with 7.56km

Strava app on the phone - ended up with 7.6km

I noticed that the phone apps are a lot bouncier. I know the Watch applies some kind of intelligence to smooth this out, but are the phone screenshots looking "normal"? Or is it a bit too irregular? I know this is "only" about a 5% difference, but it is a bit annoying because I am not sure what is showing the correct distance!

Any ideas or tips on how to get better accuracy? My next plan is to find a marked 1km track or something like that to try and see which device is measuring correctly.

Thanks!

When you run with your watch, do you have your phone ?
On the pictures, the trackiing from your phone with runtastic or strava seems a bit strange (lot of glitches that increase the distance)

Guten Morgen/Tag. That was going to be my suggestion: find a course of known length and test the Watch. A lot of our parks mark distances on the trails. You could also check the distance against a measurement on an online map (e.g. Google Maps or Map My Run).

I find that my Series 4 measures somewhere between dead on and 1% long on runs. I use the default workout app most of the time. (I use the app Intervals for speed work.)

I've never measured a run with my iPhone 8, so I don't know how accurate it is. I seldom run with it at all.
