Note: Unless you consider watching a big man bend iPads to be a kind of porn (I don’t judge), I’m not sure why there’s an 18+ warning at the beginning of the video. Maybe he curses in Russian. Whatever: it’s SFW as far as I can tell.

In this video, I think the iPad Pro 2018 appears to take a little more of a beating than it did in JerryRigEverything’s video. It bent easily in JRE’s video; but, here, you clearly see the dude needs all his strength to bend the iPad. He’s literally shaking before the weak point at the microphone hole breaks.

Perhaps JRE’s thumb placement was better (his left thumb was closer to the middle than the Russian guy’s). JRE could also have more hand strength. Perhaps some of the manipulations JRE did before bending (applying some fire to the screen?) may have made the thing easier to bend. IDK.

The tiny Mic hole is a flaw, I have seen many bend videos and its always at this weak point the iPad Pro bends at

Apple could have tried to strengthen this area in case of accidental bends in backpacks etc, I'm sure they did plenty of prototype testing.

...oh wait, adding extra strength, at the Mic hole, would bump up the price by another $50 of material...

Actually, from what I see, it only took him about a second to bend it to the point where the display dies. You’re right that after that, it appears very hard to break it entirely in half.

No doubt that it bends quickly. I agree. But you can see he ramps up his strength application from 0% to 100%, his arms start shaking, then the microphone hole breaks. Granted, the iPad is already flexing and the screen is bent before the hole breaks, but the dude is giving it his all.

In contrast, the JRE video seemed to bend the device more effortlessly. I think this video is just another data point regarding the amount of force needed to flex and break the thing: a lot.

The initial flex is what's the problem IMO. And that is just as easy in this video as it was in JerryRig's.

I wouldn't be too nervous about it if I owned the device, but I can see some people getting into trouble with this design.

We want them thin.
We want them light.
We want them durable.

We can’t have it all ways.

It makes perfect sense that something so thin and light, with a massive surface, would bend with some pressure applied to it. I’m not defending Apple and this makes me nervous, but what is everyone willing to sacrfice? Lightness? Thinness? Durability? I’m not sure I can answer this myself.

Honestly I can’t see any possible way for me to bend my iPad if I use it normally and just put it in my tech bag each day. I Have the Smart Keyboard folio on my 12.9 so I can’t see how it would bend personally

My feeling as well. I keep mine in a folio. I’m not stepping on it or crushing it against a wall. Yes, it goes in my bag, in a sleeve, inside the folio. I’m not worried.

He appears to be very muscular, so yeah.

I live in Tokyo now so chassis strength is actually a concern. Ever see those pictures of crowded trains where people are pushed in? Well, I broke a Dell laptop in one of those situations when half of my bag got caught in a closing door.

Lucky enough it was not your head that got splashed, anything can brake in those circumstances, then you need to buy yourself something like a defender case for it.... I dont want Apple to make an ipad that is so strong it would weight 3 times what it does now, when I am at home it is light, when I am on the road with it, I protect it in a case... So is my smartphone an anything else I take care of

I am much more concerned about cracking my screen than bending my new 11” ipad pro. I live in NYC and travel a lot, and i am not worried about bending at all. But i do keep it in a case to protect my screen. I have cracked several ipad screens in the past, and always keep them in a case now. I think any sane person would. These are expensive devices. Care ahould always be taken to protect them.

Some poor underprivileged kids could have used those iPads to level the playing field, and maybe get ahead in life. If I ever see that guy, I just might slap the crap out of him.

The time you spent watching the video, reading the comments, before taking the time to type letters on your keyboard, and pushing Post Reply, you could have helped a homeless guy change his underwear :)

JRE looks like he lifts. This dude, umm not so much.

Flexible displays?

I agree with you though. When they unveiled the 2018 iPad Pro I was like, I want #gorgeous #work_of_art but there’s trade offs obviously with this design. It looks great like a work of art. But obviously it’s no tank that’s for sure.

If you personally knew any poor, underprivileged kids then you'd know that a luxury iPad isn't in the top 100 things that they need.

What if the underprivileged kid decided to generated income by bending the iPad on YouTube?

Would that be okay?
