Having said that, he's not Steve Ballmer, so those who feel his wrath won't be dodging furniture. :)

You obviously don't know Steve well enough... ;)

If I was a CEO of a company like Apple, I would be sure to check forums like these and even post. I think I'd either have a bit of a hard time keeping my anonymity if I posted, or I wouldn't post at all and would just read.

I would read the sites, but I wouldn't post.

I know at the company I work for they have people to scan over forums to pick up what's going on with their customer base.

It's an easy and cheap way for common thoughts to be picked up and fed back where needed - cheaper and easier than getting in usability groups etc.

I wouldn't think anyone would post, unless they did it under the guise of a regular forum visitor, to ask leading questions to find out more about a problem/suggestion.

i would post under a fake name... maybe one that had to do with electronic music...

Edit: And maybe throw them off by stating that i lived on the other side of the country... say Florida... yea that's it...

There is another Forum that i used to post to pretty regularly that had to do with HDTV's and such... www.avsforum.com VERY informative site if you are doing some TV shopping/troubleshooting...

There are MANY, MANY, MANY, manufactures that regularly visit the the site to check the feedback of new products... some even post and help troubleshoot. ;)

Any Apple higher-up who came on this board would certainly not be stupid enough to reveal his @#$%ing presence.

That being said: Steve never writes, he never calls. I'm feeling like a neglected Jewish mother here. I thought we had something here. Dropping acid with someone just isn't the bond it used to be.

When I was big into roller-coasters, I would regular this coaster enthusiast site for Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio. After many years of being a major fan of Cedar Point, I became friends with a handful of high up employees including people in Ride Operations, Public Relations and in Marketing. They all said they read those forums regularly. One of my friends even knew my alias before I even told him! Some of the reasons were personal (like laughing at what people thought was next), but they were also instructed by the president to keep an eye on them for various business reasons (complaints, opinions, problems, etc).

Based on this, I would agree that there are many Apple employees looking at these forums. I would bet some of those employees are even high up in the Apple hierarchy.

They do.

A friend of mine works at Apple and she has said so. She said they arent allowed to post though based on some contract they had to sign. But they are well aware of the site and do read it.

I dont know about Jobs himself though.

and probably some public relations people thatw orks for apple might hang around in forums for feedback and marketing purposes

Forums like this would be a pretty good source of Market Research for Apple I would imagine... Although, as AppleInsider pointed out, there appeared to be a lack of R&D at Apple.

I'm not sure I agree. This is a good place to find out what *die hard fans* think of Apple and its products. The consensus here is generally pro-Apple, as you would expect from a board entirely focussed on Apple products.

The actual gain they would get from the majority of the posts here would, in my opinion, be negligible. Of more use than current Mac users saying why they like their Mac is Windows users saying why they haven't got a Mac. That kind of info just isn't going to come from sites like MacRumors.

If Apple want to grow, they need to branch out beyond the current tiny marketshare percentage. To do that, they need to look beyond their current userbase.

To hear about the opinions of current users, they already have their own discussion boards, after all…

Sorry for my ignorance but you all seem to be mentioning this Lacero guy. What's the deal with him?
