Looking to buy an S3, I wont have an LTE plan for it in the near future due to limited carriers in this country, but would like to have the LTE version in case I switch in the future (and the red dial).

Question for those out there with an S3 cellular without an active data plan. Does the watch act like a non cellular version when the sim is not activated? are there any downsides of running the cellular version without a data plan?

When not activated the lte watch works exactly like a non lte version... You get more storage than the non lte version but that’s about it everything works the same. I was using my watch with no service for about 2 months and had no problem at all.

Thanks, does the battery last longer on when the LTE is not activated?

Reports say that it does last longer when LTE is not on.

I also have a Stainless S3 with LTE as standard equipment. I have not activated the LTE function for a variety of reasons, and it operates just fine. Battery life is great, I have about 65-75% remaining after a 10-12 hour day.

You get the premium “Explorer” watchface when you buy the Series 3 LTE Model, the non lte models don’t have it.

Even with lte service activated onthe watch the battery will be the same as a non lte versions as long the watch is pair to the phone... As soon as the watch disconnects from the phone, wifi or lte will kick in and that’s where you’ll see a battery difference.

I am now charging every 3rd night, this includes tracking at least 3 workouts on my watch plus daily use. S3 LTE but not activated, just not paying the extra $14-$16 a month.
