So many are wondering if the new S8 is better or can you live with another cycle before you upgrade?

Well I decided to bite the bullet and move from an S5 alumi cellular to an S8 SS. I upgraded the S5 to Watch OS 9 before I moved over to the S8 and the S5 had 82% battery health.

  • Bigger screen is nice but not game changing.
  • Is it faster, maybe but the S5 wasn’t slow and was still fine in that regard.
  • New watch faces are WOS9 so that isn’t an 8 think but nice to have a few changes.
But by far and away the best improvement Battery life. I often had days with 17% left after a walk or two during the day and normal usage But the lowest I’ve seen so far is 59%, today after a more normal today it’s sitting at 71% just before I go to bed.

I haven’t changed any settings at all and have the same watch face as before, yes dull I know. Also sleep tracking seems to only use maybe 2 or 3%, I don’t have any temp showing yet not used it enough and if the watch is using it’s own GPS rather than the phone it doesn’t seem to make and difference to battery life to me so that’s good.

So without even using the new battery saving mode I think I could just about get 2 days, very happy with that indeed and well worth the upgrade.

I jumped to an S7 and one of the biggest improvements I’ve noticed is fast charging. I worry a lot less about battery life when I can go from near zero to 50% in like 20 min.

Same. Game changer when you want to run and it takes minutes to charge it back up to 80% or so. Way less worried than with my S6.

Another thing is the speed to connect. With the S5 I’d have to open the phone a few times it wasn’t seemless. For the S8 the connect to watch handshake is instant, it’s done before I can even look at my wrist, like that a lot.
