Quick screen recorder test. Note that this screen recorder app was bogging down my S6 edge big time almost to a stand still. I'll try to shoot it from an external cam later on.

It asks me to signin to watch when I click? Weird. Maybe not finished processing?

Edit.... It was just processing. It's working now :)

And thanks for at least making me aware to use screen capture mode in future it's certainly more elegant than trying to hold another phone, record and hold whilst trying to navigate with the other hand :)

Lol, thanks!

Also, have you noticed any differences between 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 (if you used it before the update)?

Quite a lot.

Things are faster, refresh less, and so forth. Overall, it's become a good experience. Heck, on 5.0.2 I had apps crash in the middle of me using them. Now, the same apps don't.

Here's another quick one. Again, my apps don't open this slow, the recorder app was bogging things down.

Thanks, it appears to behave much better than mine on memory management.

However, can you redo this one and cycle between 1-6 and go back to app one? The way you did it, you returned to Pandora as your last one, which means only 4 apps could be held in memory.

I'll do that with an external cam later on. If you want name the apps you want me to try, preferably ones that don't show personal info.

Hope fully yours turns out better than mine.

Yeah yours was refreshing there as soon as you went back into maps and subsequently most things after, chrome, play store etc..

It does refreshes them quickly it's just a bit annoying that's all. In isolation it's not so bad, it's when you use multiple devices and the other device isn't doing it that it becomes more apparent.

Still must say that silver colour of your device looks awesome :)

I had the edge for a month and I sold it due to the RAM issue. I thought the iPhone was bad, but the edge was was much worse in this regard.

So it looks like ALL GS 6 and Edge are affected by the memory leak... and those who don't realize it are just living with it?

I think it likely is affecting all GS6/Edge devices because didn't Samsung say that the aggressive RAM management is intentional? I'm not sure why, but I thought that's what they said. Maybe that's just an excuse.

Could someone clarify? Did I just make that up or remember that wrong?

I am not sure..... I have never had it happen to me anyway. I am not sure it is an issue for most people. But I am also sure it is a big nuisance when it does happen to people! :)

I don't think everyone is affected by a leak so much as aggressive management. I also think it boils down to expectations.

Would've been nice if the op did more research instead of spreading misinformation. It's not a memory leak but garbage collection because it happens when there are plenty of free DRAM like ~800MB free. It appears that apps that don't set themselves as priority are automatically cleaned up in the background because there are apps that run pretty much indefinitely as long as there is free DRAM such as JuiceSSH, IRC for Android, BubbleUPnP, MX Player Pro, My Cloud Player for Soundcloud, etc. Also, there's a difference between redraw and reload. Redraw doesn't lose your last status such as returning to Google Maps where it redraws, perhaps to update traffic condition, but shows the correct last location whereas reload loses your last status/location. While iOS is overly restrictive with kill most everything in background after 3 minutes and Android Lollipop allowing apps that set themselves as priority with auto garbage collection of non-priority apps I think it would be beneficial to allow the user to override this behavior per app.

That's all fine and dandy but the end result is still the same - Apps aren't memory managed properly and it's the S6 causing it. Having 3gb of memory should allow more than a dozen to stay in memory but it can't match a 1gb iPhone at this point.

Not a win for the S6..

Yet what has been demonstrated on videos here are full 'refreshes' not redraws.

Actually, you should try again. When I first got the S6 Edge, I though Chrome was doing full refreshes. Until I noticed on forums(like MR), it wasn't acutally refreshed. It was just redrawing what was already cached. When I refreshed it, then all my notifications come up and posts I didn't see before. Chrome seems to be the only app that does this so far. Other apps (including default browser) just pop right back to it's shown state.

Being that said, It's very possible that those having that issue are experiencing redraws, not refreshes on at least some apps.

No things like tapatalk and such for me drop me out of the app completely (completely out of last thread or forum - back to forum menu) and I have to manually go back completely to where I was from the original menu.

Likewise with hangouts it drops me out of message I was in and I'm back at the front end (message list).

Likewise Photos it doesn't reload last picture, it drops me back to front end and refreshes completely.

So in my case it most definitely isn't a simple redraw - it's a complete reload/refresh

In fairness however it does reload very fast but still a bit of a pain in the bum.

I don't use Chrome I use Samsung stock browser but to be honest I don't really use browser much I use dedicated apps for things like Amazon, eBay, forums, bank etc. So dedicated browser use is minimal for me and doesn't impact my use on any phone tbh.

I ended up returning my S6 Edge... but not for any of the reasons I thought.

Turns out, with about 10 gigs of music and my usual apps, 1/2 of the storage of a 64gb model was gone. The 128gb model is bare minimum on an Android device apparently. Since all devices need a significant chunk of free space just to ensure flash performance doesn't degrade over time, the 64gb model doesn't cut.

Sad that Android takes up over 10GB alone, while iOS 9 is 1GB...

Android doesn't take 10gb alone. You're saying with 10gb of music and your usual apps, 1/2 the storage is gone. My phone is showing 24.86gb out of 32 total. That's the OS and apps, obviously. And it doesn't take into account that formatting a 32gb drive takes some space off. I can't account for all 32gb of the supposed 32 using the storage system.

But if you had all your usual apps and 10gb of music and you still had 32gb left free - why would you need to have 96gb free as a bare minimum ?

Also I think your assertion they need a significant chunk of free space informed. You do not need to keep a huge chunk free just to maintain performance.

Likewise factory image sizing

S6 factory image / system reserved is around 6gb

Around 7% is removed as soon as you format the storage regardless of device and around

Likewise my 64gb has around 56gb free fresh from factory. 7% is formatting is 59.5 left and remaining 3.5gb is system.

So a 64gb S6 has around 59.5 after formatting and around 52gb free after system used up. 52gb free to the user.

So the size difference between the two is around 3.5-4gb between iPhone 6 64gb and S6 64gb. So not as big a difference as people tend to make out.

I'd be interested to see if you or anyone else could do a video for comparisons sake with the iPhone 6 vs Nexus 5 '15. From what I've read, Nexus phones are the best. I've always stuck to Galaxy, and having an S6 with so much power is great, but actual real world performance sucks.

There is no Nexus 5 '15 yet ;)
