Ordered two S7s for my wife and I as soon as preorders went live. Both were custom watch/strap combos using Design Studio. One of them is showing a January shipping estimate. I see from other posts that a few other folks are getting January estimates as well. Thought I'd start a thread to discuss and track whether this starts changing to better news for anyone. I know Apple has delays this year but January seems unrealistically long.

Our order statuses are:
  • S7 Graphite SS 45 mm with graphite Milanese: Nov 1-7
  • S7 Silver SS 41 mm with black braided loop: January
This is our first time preordering Apple Watches through the Design Studio. In the past we just ordered with sport bands and then swapped with our existing bands. From browsing the forums it seems like most or all folks getting January dates used the Design Studio. I'm not sure how Apple packages these custom combos - ie if they need additional time for factory workers to assemble and box the combos. Has anyone preordered this way before (say during the S6 launch) and what was your experience?

I'll check our order status again at the end of the day and see if there's any movement.

Please post what you ordered that shows a January estimate and any details.

I just ran your S7 SS 41 mm with Black Braided loop, currently says unavailable. I wonder if they even make those??? Not that I'll be getting it but I've noticed a lot of band selections are no longer being made and why would they continue to list it on the site lol

If Apple promised Oct 15 delivery on a Watch, but it turns out the accompanying band is unavailable and shouldn't have been sold...yeah, that's a mess up on their part. The questions are, will they make it right and if so, how?

This whole S7 process has been a debacle. I’m curious if anyone was able to get a delivery date in October for a 45mm in October. I got up really early this morning to order and the best I saw was Nov 1-8. I think I tried every combination on there right after ordering. Ended up with a 45mm Graphite with midnight sport band Nov 2-9 delivery. My wife was placing an order for a 41mm and she said those had Oct deliver dates.

On past watch preorders I have seen very different shipping estimates depending on the specific size, model, and material you order. Availabilities vary depending on the specific type of watch you order, and Apple never promises a launch day delivery across the full range of model types. That is not new this year.

What is new for me is seeing a delay of three months. That's shockingly long for Apple.

This is also the first time I've preordered through Design Studio and I have no idea how long using that option typically delays order preparation. Wondering if others did this last year with the Series 6 and how it went. Surely the default watch/strap combos are more readily available because those are already boxed and sitting in a warehouse ready to ship. But the custom combos shouldn't add three whole months.

Interesting. I'm seeing the same. The other colors are available and we could order this watch for Nov 1-8 delivery right now with a different color. There are also some of the black ones in local stores for pickup today. I wonder why they would not have just the black one in stock...

Yes 45 graphite …. Launch day delivery.

Well, if it said Oct. 15 in your Order Confirmation email, then that's kind of a commitment; perhaps small delays to the dates in Order Confirmations are occasionally unavoidable, but a three-month delay is unreasonable.

I didn't use Design Studio, but after I selected the Space Black Titanium with Solo Loop, I tapped on a different color (black) than the one that first loads. Throughout the entire ordering process and in my Order Confirmation email, I was quoted Oct. 15 delivery. Now I see "Jan" when I check the order status.

The issue is, the Black Solo Loop is, as far as I now know, discontinued. Apple shouldn't have even allowed its sale with the Watch. It seems to me that everyone seeing "Jan." is in the same boat, having picked an older 40/44mm band.

Since "Jan" isn't the typical Apple nomenclature with arrival dates, I'm left wondering what will even happen to these orders. But I strongly feel that if Apple sold unavailable bands as available with the Watch, quoting Oct. 15 deliveries of the same, and those orders are facing eventual cancellation or lengthy delays, it's on them to make it right somehow.

41mm midnight cellular with midnight sports band and 41mm midnight Nike cellular with black sport loop, both ordered as soon as the store came online - delivery for both October 15. Just few minutes ago I ordered a graphite SS 41mm with milanaise band - delivery November 2.-18. or store pick up October 15. I went for pick up.

I'm in the same boat as you. Ordered 5:02 am PST and got the email saying these watches would arrive Oct 15, but now that I check, it shows JANUARY.

I will get mine launch day and my partner will have to wait to get his after Christmas and New Years Day...

I looked more closely at the braided loops and found a big difference in availability between the colors and sizes. The black one is unavailable for delivery and there is only one size 8 in store about 1.5 hrs away from us.

So we just submitted a new order for the same watch with a Cherry Braided Loop and it ships first week of November. If nothing improves with the black one and the cherry one ships first, we will cancel the black one. We always have the option to do an in store exchange of the strap.

I was just thinking of this morning and regretting swapping the band color from the default Cherry to the unavailable one. Maybe I wouldn't be in this boat...

There’s still time to put in a new order and then cancel that one.

Same here. Ordered SS Graphite with solo loop (it was the first option in the screen — I don’t really care about the band since I have dozens others I like to use) With delivery date of 10/15. Now it says January, but if I try to order another SS Graphite… The delivery date is 11/2-11/9, so it’s pretty clear it’s a glitch, or an issue with that particular band I ordered in the first place.

I’ll give it 1-2 days and if it’s the same I might ask about it. I don’t want to wait 3 months for a band I don’t care about.

Confirmation email says 10/15, but order status page says jan. I chatted with Apple who seemed puzzled and said it must be a bug, wait a couple days. I hope so- 3mo delay for an order placed in the first 10m is pretty lame.

I think that's the right move. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't appear to be very transparent when it's a certain band that is pushing the availability date three whole months! I don't know many people who wouldn't be willing to choose a different strap in this case, especially since you can purchase a backordered band later when it's in stock again.

I was too stressed out when ordering and tired. Normally I could save the case and band option I want for day of ordering. This morning though, i just chose a default option for the case I wanted and figured I could do a band exchange. This way I get it on 10/15.

UPDATE: My order now shows Oct 15! Looks like the system is correcting itself... give it time, and don't cancel your orders!

it depends. i got a 45mm starlight S7 GPS only with a solo loop band for home delivery Oct 15. even 30 minutes in i saw starlight / midnight S7’s available for STORE pickup on the 15th, and delivery oct for those had slipped to october 28th. it seems the ones hit hardest were any of the premium finishes and cellular aluminum models which slipped nearly instantly or in some cases NEVER offered delivered on the 15th.
