It's just a big hunk of 1st class leather with great stitching....I like it....Expensive, but ok with me.....

How stiff is the leather? Is it difficult to quick insert/extract the Air? My understanding is that Saddleback extend the life of their products by not selling them already soft. So they start out quite stiff and slowly soften over time.

Correct...it is very stiff but the cut is perfect...it is snug to pull it out, but it is very minimal effort...

I love my Saddleback Leather sleeve as well. I am a huge fan of their leather, my 15" MB Pro rides to and from work in one of their thin briefcases, and their large gadget sleeve is perfect for my iPad Mini.
