Why the heck does Safari use 300 megs of ram while firefox only uses a cool 80 megs?

I really want to love you Safari, but you make it so hard.

Why apple why?

Read the Firefox forums on mozillazine some time. What you'll find is that both Safari and Firefox use anywhere between about 40 and 800MB, with no two people agreeing on how much exactly.

mac or windows version?

ps. it all depends on if the system is slowing down becuase of this, not really about how much memory it takes.

anyway, you need at least 1G memory to run tiger/leopard smoothly anyway.

I have a MBP 2 gigs, 2.2mhz

Safari always eats up memory on my system for some reason.

I agree, Safari is a monster & has chewed through upwards of 350MB of physical RAM.

I don't user Safari anyway because it leaks x509 keys (security risk).

FireFox for me :)
