Safari 16 breaks tab to new window behavior

I don’t know why, but I haven’t experienced the problem for a while now. Which makes it even more puzzling. Still on Monterey.

Same here; I can't be sure if the problem cleared with Safari 16.1, macOS 12.6.1, or afterward.

Still have the issue. All I have to do is have either pinned tabs or two windows and merge all windows and I lose Windows. Terrible bug. Still exists in Version 16.1 (18614.2.9.1.12)

god this bug was annoying - just upgraded to 13.0.1, and while safari is still at version 16.1 like before, the behavior is back to normal. everything works as it should.

I'm on 13.0.1. Still got that issue. It's driving me nuts. It's possible to temporarily mitigate it by starting safari in safe mode and then pulling a tab out but it'll return.

Just updated to 16.2 and I believe it is fixed. It has been chuffing annoying.

Yes, I'm also on Safari 16.2 (with Monterey 12.6.2) and haven't experienced this issue any more, but not sure if that's the case since 16.1 or 16.2.
