Hey everyone,

I have a mid 2014 MBP running OS X 10.9.5 and Safari 7.1.6 and since last week or so, I can only play YouTube videos at 144p. All other quality options are grayed out and can't be selected.

Does anyone else also have this issue? Is it because YouTube dropped support for Safari 7.1.6?

Thanks a lot!

Strange, I can get 720p to play even in Safari 5.1.10 for Snow Leopard. I agree with the suggestion above, you have nothing to lose by updating to the Mavericks version of Safari 9.0.1 (should appear in App Store > Updates).

Yea cause on my other Mac, running 10.8.5 with Safari 6.2.8, YouTube works fine as well!

The thing is I don't really want to update to Safari 9 because I'm not a big fan of the updated design..

So for anyone interested, installing Apple's recommended security updates through the Mac App Store seemed to have solved the problem! Now YouTube videos up to 1080p on Safari 7 work again.
