It's nearly impossible to visually tell which safari tab you have active. I'm not seeing a config option to address this. Anyone know of an extension that lets you customize those visuals somewhat? (eg. colorize the active tab, etc).

Dark mode, there's enough distinction ... but light mode? Almost nothing.

Yeah, I just filed a 'suggestion' on that myself, it really is absolutely terrible in this build.

I hope it's just because it's mid redesign.

WHen window is in background they're easy enough to distinguish, too..
 
It is slightly easier to see them if disable see wallpaper tint through windows, too. But the tabs do look very much half way through a redesing, there's bits missing at their borders, etc.

Yeah, I had to disable wallpaper tinting because of this issue.

Let's hope so. I'm not convinced Apple will see anything wrong with this considering other readability/contrast issues that are left unfixed.
