Im using it right now on my windows machine and I love it. All the pretty fonts makes me feel at home when Im away from my mac. Its awesome being able to see websites look pretty again. The software is lightning fast and unlike some of you people I have not locked it up or crashed it as of yet.

As for slamming the short list of issues on a BETA product go, get a life. The reason beta programs come out is to test it in the real world with real users, obtain feedback and get it ready for the final release where these problems will be fixed. Some of you that stupid that you dont know what BETA means?

Personally I dont do anything on this PC that I consider sensitive information, so I'm using it and loving it. Firefox I have never fully trusted for security and IE give me a break. If 75% of the windows users are using IE then they are the ones at risk, cause My beta apple browser is more secure =)

Go ahead retards (you know who you are), flame and attack this wonderful app, and keep using what ya like, im here now and im not going back to firefox or IE ever again.

What is Apple thinking? Let's get all the peecee users to download a bunk free copy of a really great Apple browser and corrupt all of their pc's, so we can sell more Macs to switchers!!!:D

I love it too. I will be switching to Mac soon. :)

One thing I've been having a problem with though is Java. I just get a coffee cup instead of any applets. :(

I switched back to using Safari 2.0.4. Not because of any bad issues or anything, just a couple of small annoyances. I use Safari with Saft and it saves all my open tabs and the next time I open Safari, they all automatically load. With Safari 3, it has that functionality, but you have to go to the history menu and select "Open last saved windows" or something like that. I like the way Saft (and Firefox) handles it better. The only other annoyance to me, really, was that I like being able to click a link and have it open in a new tab, instead of a new window. Again, that's a feature of Saft that I love and I didn't see any way to do that in Safari 3.

Maybe these annoyances will be fixed in later versions, but until then, I'm most likely gonna stick with Safari 2 w/ Saft.

What about the OSX bugs? Alpha or Beta, bugs are bugs..

Sorry guys but even almighty Apple has OS issues as well. Run a google search for "month of apple bugs" IMO, its little to do with safari being a beta.
I never have cared much for the browser and prefer Firefox which is where I'll stay, even if it means waiting another .002 seconds for a page to load.
Apple is becoming more well known, more users are switching over and more issues are surfacing. Don't get me wrong, I really like their products but perfect? Hardly... If you must blame someone, blame Jobs for pulling the Leopard team to work on the iPhone which I predict will sell heavy at first (hype) then dwindle. I honestly dont know many that are going to shell out $600. for a phone even with all the wizardry. Bugs or no bugs, Safari has always sucked. For me, Safari is entirely too much of a system hog, even compared to Firefox. What good is a webpage opening faster if your system slows to a snails pace?

I'm having a hard time trying to make that all apply...
Yes, OSX has bugs, no one (in this thread) is saying they don't. Heck, no one in this thread is really talking about OSX bugs.

Most of us are aware of the month of bugs. If I remember correctly we were promised one a day, which didn't pan out for the guy. I'm glad they were found and fixed though, that's awesome.

However, I'm not sure how OSX tigar final having bugs related to Safari beta having bugs...
I doubt many of the programmers were the same, and the state of development is entirely different. I'll place $100 right now if someone can find a program over 100,000 lines of code, in beta for the first week, that has ZERO bugs. I could extend that to final versions as well, but that's irelavent, as Safari isn't Final yet.

Beta software by definition has bugs, or it is presumed that more will be found. If that wasn't the case, it would be Final and shipping.

I never have cared much for the browser and prefer Firefox which is where I'll stay, even if it means waiting another .002 seconds for a page to load.

Where are you getting this from? Who is saying Apple is perfect? There are a handful of us here, most of which work in the software industry, defending the idea of what beta software is, and are doig so regardless of the company. I believe those saying that beta software by definition has bugs, would not be any harder on a different company, be it Microsoft or whoever.

On the other hand, there are a bunch of Apple users trashing Apple for the state of the beta version of Safari.
Unless we have been inundated with a slew of Windows "fan boys", I'd say it's Apple's own user base giving Apple the hardest time.

If you must blame someone, blame Jobs for pulling the Leopard team to work on the iPhone which I predict will sell heavy at first (hype) then dwindle.

I highly doubt the team working on porting Safari to Windows is the same team working on Apples next gen OS. It would seem like two completely different territories and expertise sets. I could be wrong though...
Perhaps you have evidence to the contrary?

To each his own I suppose. I use Safari on my Mac, and Firefox on my work machine. As far as the iPhone goes, I don't know what will happen to it, nor will I presume to. There is a legendary thread here at Mac rumors that was started with the announcement of the first iPod. Basically Apple "fan boys" were ripping Apple apart and saying the thing would fail miserably, and that it was too expensive and didn't offer what the competition did.
Obviously a different market, different product, and different time. But I'm not going to judge Apple just yet, or pretend like I know the market, product, or the times as well as they do.

Sorry, I consider Safari part of the OSX experience. Actually to say Safari Beta is kind of strange at this point. Its been out how many years now and still fails to meet expectations?

I wasnt aware any of the bugs found were fixed. The last I heard no fixes were made due to jobs devoting so much of Apples resources to the iPhone.

Not a huge fan-boy of either. It stems from the attitude people I know that have had macs since the early 90's, bundled with the latest commercials Apple has been showing, slamming the PC. I have been running both Win & Mac since Panther came out and there are things I like about each. Yes, I have few problems with the Mac but honestly I have very little trouble with the PC as well.

Are you kidding? They just did it (again). I hear its b/c Jobs likes to keep a small team of "trusted" people within Apple. instead of adding people to get the job done. Leopard was to be out in April, then June, Now what November? Glad to see them slacking with the next OS (which after seeing the keynote, isn't really all that grand. Stacks.. Cool, Cover Flow... Cool but nothing that impressive) Say what you like but MSFT pulled the Xbox team to finish Vista on time. I must give them credit for that.

Apple Delays Leopard OS To Keep iPhone On Track

Apple on Thursday pushed back the release of Leopard, the next major upgrade of its Macintosh operating system, until October, saying it had to divert too much of its resources to getting the iPhone out on time.

And from BBC News

Leopard delayed by Apple iPhone
The demands of the iPhone are delaying Leopard
The next release of Apple's operating system, OS X, is being delayed by four months.

Scheduled to appear in mid-June, the new version of the Mac software, codenamed Leopard before now, will instead be released in October.
A trial, or beta, version, of Leopard will be available in June at the Apple developer conference.
The delay has been caused by the demands of the Apple iPhone which is intended to go on sale in June.
To ensure the iPhone hits its target, Apple has assigned some OS X engineers and quality testers to that project.
In a statement, Apple said the sophisticated software on the iPhone had forced it to make some difficult choices about where to concentrate its development and engineering efforts.
The iPhone was unveiled in January at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.
Apple said that the features in Leopard will be complete by the time of its Worldwide Developers Conference in June but the final polish on the product would be missing.

"We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October," said Apple.

Any time one does a major rewrite of a piece of software, it opens up all kinds of possibilities for conflicts within the code. Some of these are obvious compiler errors that you'll never see. But the pesky ones are the runtime errors, those can be hard to find, and sometimes near impossible to track down if they can't consistently be reproduced. If you don't understand this that's okay, just take my word for it. Even if nothing "visually" changes, there could be huge amounts of code changed with the intention of improvement, but always with the possibility of a conflict causing bugs or some loop hole for a malicious person to take advantage of.

Besides, if a company declares an updated piece of software beta, take their word for it. Don't think that just because a previous version didn't have a particular bug, that the beta won't as well. It's called beta for a reason.

I wasnt aware any of the bugs found were fixed. The last I heard no fixes were made due to jobs devoting so much of Apples resources to the iPhone.

Are we talking about the Safari beta here? The one that went public 2 days ago? Because that is what this thread is about.

I'm in close to the same boat. I work all day in Windows, testing windows software. I do my own side projects at home on my Mac. I do all my photography work on my Mac. I have my set of likes and dislikes for both.

Are you kidding? (Earendil's Note: since you didn't break up my lengthy response, I don't know what part of what I said was supposed to be kidding you...) They just did it (again). I hear its b/c Jobs likes to keep a small team of "trusted" people within Apple. instead of adding people to get the job done. Leopard was to be out in April, then June, Now what November? AFAIK, Lepard was to be released in "Spring 07" or whichever quarter that is for Apple. A month was never given, but June would be the last chance, and WWDC was a likely venue. It was delayed just once, to october, as far as I know.
But why are you trying to discussing OSX delays in a Safari beta thread?
Like I said in my previous post, these two teams would appear to do VERY different things, no matter what you think in your head. UNLESS, you can give me reason outside of "feeling like safari is part of OSX".

iPhone however is using a slimmed down version of OSX, so it makes since that the backup help would be the OSX dev team if they are hitting unexpected problems.

Say what you like but MSFT pulled the Xbox team to finish Vista on time. I must give them credit for that.

"On time" is of course a relative thing here. Vista had multiple "we will release in this month/quarter" and then having to cancel that date. I'm sure if Apple had to delay yet again, and the delay went more than 4 months, they would start pulling other teams to finish OSX. As it is, I don't think Apple a failure, or Microsoft for that matter, for not hitting a planned release date for a piece of Software. But perhaps that's because I have very intimate knowledge of software development...

Example of what? I, and the 50 sum people across 150+posts before this are talking about the Beta version of Safari 3.0 that was released for beta testing 2 days ago. If you are trying to make a point, I'm afraid I missed it.

Say what you like but MSFT pulled the Xbox team to finish Vista on time. I must give them credit for that.

Oh, so you mean once MSFT renamed Longhorn to Vista they no longer have to remember Longhorn schedule? When was that due, 2003? Really, can you honestly think that MSFT released "on time"?

Vista has been the longest waiting game ever. And probably THE biggest disappointment. Apple moving Leopard release from "spring" to october only means few months and they did give a credible excuse for it.

The short answer is NO. If you want the detailed answer, you need to actually make an effort and read the entire thread.

I would tend to classify "day 1" as release day

It's currently offered as download in the frontpage of apple.com. Anyone who wants it can easily download and install it, and Apple is encouraging people to do so. What makes you think it has NOT been "released"? The word "beta"?

Where in hell are you people all coming from?

I accept a need and a place for genuine critisism but this is something else.

Why does every newbie lately feel the need to

a) gloat when a great company, ( who has made your way of life possible), makes a few mistakes

B) Try and pull that great company into the gutter, probably to cheer at it's demise.

Seriously it's just bad breeding or something. (I do hope it's not those 'get a mac' ads that's bringing these people out of the woodwork)

Anyway, Please try and remember that most people who come to this site LOVE APPLE and Apple products and we generally ( well I never do) don't go to microsoft forums and start spreading poison - ok!

Please people let's Live and let live dudes!

Safari for windows seems like a way to provide an "sdk" for non-Mac iPhone developers. Now they have a browser where they can test their apps.

Apple wins responsiveness race

Looks like issues fixed - Safari 3.0.1 available this morning. Even available in Apple Software Update on windows.

Beta releases work :)

It looks suspiciously a lot like astroturfing to me, so it's best to just try to ignore most of them.

By the way, it's being reported that an update to version 3.0.1 for Windows is already available, so it sure didn't take Apple long to fix some of the security issues. I can't say that I recall ever seeing updates to IE or even Firefox in response to issues this quickly. This first update took less than 3 days.

Dude, Computers are great but hey, your acting as if I have insulted your mom or something, get over it. I like Macs and I like PC's there are issues with each. I guess I hate a pompous attitude more than anything (Macs commercials, declaring superiority) If in fact ones product is superior in every way. No need to gloat, people will figure it out. Yes I use both Mac & Windows daily and there are things I like and dislike about each. Sorry to have stirred the pot. I'll leave you (Mac or MS) fanboys alone. LOL! Unreal...

No man, it's not like insulting him mom, you should see what he does when you do  :p

Somehow I doubt you use both "Mac" and windows daily, if you can't even use the right word. I, and a number of others including the person you replied to, are here making intelligent arguments (for both sides), to which people like you are coming in and spewing inconsistent garbage that can hardly be followed as an argument, but that is dripping with spite. Then when we pick apart your post with a halfway intelligent argument, you have to pull the "wow, back off man, it aint your mother, I'll leave you fan boys alone!!". Real classy there, dude.

Figuring that you're just a kid, and by kid I mean under 16 (no offense to the mature youngin's we have on the board, of course), me thinks you need to go learn some life lessons in "Constructive criticisms", and basic rules of debate. Because what you have, even if you mean it otherwise, comes across as "fighting" and "trash talking". :(

Peace.

Wow! What insight! 16, I wish... Actually I am 38 and use my mac mini 1.5Ghz running Tiger 10.4.9. which replaced my Power Mac G4 867 running Panther, which I was using as a Pro-Tools rig. I mainly use the mini to surf the web, email and such. For my business I am using a Sony Viao running win-xp. I use it for ms office apps and also for Intuit Quickbooks since both of these products leave room for desire on the mac platform. I like Apple products, never have had a error, crash, and Im not even running security software and have had a cable internet connection for almost 2 years! No problems at all! But again, there are some features on the mac that I do not care for (Safari) and would rather flip over to the PC for my business needs. For example, Spotlight finds too many documents for me to have to dig through to find the one I actually need. MS Word on my PC finds exactly what I need (searching over 10,000 doc files) when I search for keywords within the document. Also, why is it that when you copy something from the web (on a mac) and then open a program (like word) to paste it, you have to go back and recopy the text again then flip back to word to be able to paste it? It seems to me that the copy function is not held in RAM memory or something? I dunno... Also, Every time I open a file in word (on the mac) I have to resize the text and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse constantly loose their connections with the Mini, which is a drag. the latest Quickbooks does not support muiti-users on the mac (2 users on different machines using the same company file) but it is supported on the PC. I mean, there are good and bad for both. These are a few of my issues but hey, im 16 and have never even touched the almighty mac.. To argue and get as upset as you seem to be, is rather odd for me. Have a great day....

And NO ONE is saying you shouldn't think those issues are a problem. If there are people, they aren't in this thread, and aren't seeing what you're writing. They also, as far as I can figure out and as far as you have been able to demonstrate so far over 4 posts, have nothing to do with the Safari Beta...

See... You claim 38, and I'm inclined to believe you. But then you go and take this comment by me:
"I doubt you use both "Mac" and windows daily"
and turn it into this one by you:
"and have never even touched the almighty mac".
Which I'm of course taking as a sarcastic reply to what I said, and not literally...

And I understand the written language can be misinterpreted easily when it comes to emotion. But what makes you think I'm angry? I think my last post included these two smilies: :p :(
For the record, I'm not in the least bit mad or angry.

I'd be lying to say that I don't get a little agitated when first time posters make an argumentative flame-inciting post that is completely off topic. More so when they than proceed to continue posting without actually tackling any of the main counter-points someone may make about their post.

If you are new to online forums, awesome. Welcome aboard. But know that there are some general rules in this culture, and though you may think them silly, please respect them. One of them being, we try and keep things on topic, and we tie related topics into the main topic. (try not to reply to this with some sarcastic jab at the Apple community here, aye?) There are millions of other threads where you can complain about other Apple issues, use those ones, or start a new one.

Have a nice day :)
