Safari Bookmarks Bar

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have the Bookmarks Bar on the left side appear simultaneously while browsing sites in the main window. Like what old IE did in XP?? I know, I know, but I'm a recent convert and my mind is organized around those easily found bookmarks. That's the only feature I can say that I miss after The Switch. Otherwise, I'm thrilled with my refurbed 17"MBP.

Saft, which is a Safari plugin, has a sidebar feature but i cant work how to put my bookmarks in there.
