I'm not posting this under ttroubleshooting because I don't want to fix it (rather I will buy a new one one day).

But my iphone 3gs has this issue that it crashes all the time when I use safari. I can use it just fine for some time, but then the screen turns black and it returns to the home screen. I have the latest ios 6 of course

Frankly it's very frustating as it seems to be a ram issue, given I use other apps just fine without any crashing. If I dare to try to post in aforum thread with my device, it usually chrashes and all my post gets gone forever.

Is this apple way of telling me to update or is my iphone to old to handle the memory for today's internet with it's poor ram? Just curious if it's just me.

My iPhone 4 has been acting weird as well. Apps randomly closing. A black screen before it goes back to the home screen. I have already ordered a new phone, but I think my beloved iPhone 4 is dying a slow death. :(

If it was working otherwise I would not have bought a new phone. Not everyone upgrades their phone every year.

Safari shouldn't really be crashing because the phone is old. If you've rebooted it and it persists, you might try doing a reset to factory settings and see if it still does it. Could be something in there that is just hosed up after all these years. I remember how slow my 3GS was after the newer (then) iOS update. That prompted me to move to a 4 which was much faster. I can't imagine how slow it must be with iOS 6.

If you don't want to job the coin on a new iPhone, you can get an iPhone 4s 16G on Gazelle for $139. My wife was using my old 4s until a couple weeks ago when I upgraded her to my old 5s when I went to the 6s Plus. There is a world of difference between the 3GS and 4s.

Your device is long in the tooth and the demands of today's Internet are too much for its resources. Time to put it out to pasture (use it for an iPod or something).

2009 called. They want their phone back.

Dude... it is time to upgrade your 6 year old phone.
