After updating to macOS 26.2 I noticed that Safari crashes a lot compared to 26.1. Meaning it went from nevert ot 8 times since the update. The weird thing is, the Safari window doesn't close, I only get the crash diagnostic dialog box and a diagnostic file in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.

I can't see a pattern in the crashes. Currently I just sent them to Apple in the hope that maybe they get annoyed and fix this. The only extension I use is Wipr.

Did anyone experienced a similar behaviour or tried to fix it themselves?

I'm using Wipr and have not had a single Safari crash.

Are you sure you don't have some other extensions running?

Same here. Basically no crashes during 4 years of daily use and now it happens multiple times a week. Usually this is when logging in without passwords, doing payments or registrations.

Crashes started to happen closing a tab or anything really, so downgraded using the direct Apple links to Safari 18 at mrmacintosh. I've already been through disabling extensions, cleaning up and everything, but finally had enough. We'll see if this downgrade helps, but before v26 Safari didn't crash for me. Actually most apps I use, including real time software typically won't crash. Crashes are both rare and unacceptable to me.

Nothing unusual to report here either – it sounds like you and MikB are the main two who recognize each other.

Please update us if you manage to narrow it down!

This week Safari Version 26.2 (21623.1.14.11.9) has really started to play up for me. Not one am I randomly losing windows with a lot of tabs open, but I also lost all my history a few days ago across all my devices. I cannot say for sure it is related to 26.2, but Safari has been rock solid for me for years and years. And I use Safari on my MBP a lot (presently running a M4 Max 14" 64GB/2TB, an absolutely wonderful machine).

Safari is getting worse and worse on my Mac. Pages become unresponsive, switching back and forth between 5 or 6 tabs and suddenly one is blank, clicking links randomly do no work and the annoying nag about using significant energy. I have tried all the suggestions about clearing cache, disabling extensions, rebooting, etc. and after doing that things work okay for a while and then it goes right back to bug city. The aggravation just about has me going back to Chrome.

not typical. what version of the OS are you running? you could try running safari in a test admin account, see if the problem happens there...

I realize most people aren't running into what I am seeing. I am running 26.3. I also am not a big fan of Safari on my iPad either. I tried Chrome for the rest of the day and it worked flawlessly. Going to try Chrome on all my devices for a few days to see how things go.
