Safari crashes when rotated to landscape on iPhone 6 plus

This forum. Pretty much all websites. I'm going to wipe my phone and start over. Hopefully that helps.

#1 Try using Tapatalk App to view the forum. As for the other websites. I would try clearing all your history and cache under settings Safari.

#2 Try to quit all running Apps. Try to reset your iPhone holding the power and home keys till the Apple symbol shows up. Also try to shutdown your iPhone completely and restarting.

#3 Failing all that: plug it into your computer hold down the home an power button and do a full restore!

Good luck

I did a fresh install and so far no crashes when rotating. Must be a migration problem from older backups. I guess iOS is getting a little too complicated for its own good.

As helpful as these fixes posted by other users are, we shouldn't have to do X, Y or Z in order for our new, top of the line, all singing/all dancing devices to work.
Apple needs to sort their act out QUICK- If I can't switch between portrait and landscape on a Safari page for fear of it crashing and taking me to my home page i'd consider that a pretty big issue, and one that should be a basic fundamental of how the phone should work.
Not impressed at all!

To be fair I don't think that this is a very widespread issue, but I do think that there seem to be problems caused by years of baggage that is being carried over with each upgrade.

I've had more problems with iOS 8 than just about any upgrade ever.

I take back my last post.

Restoring as new didn't fix the problem. Safari consistently still crashes in landscape mode no matter the website.

Okay I take it back...again. It's still happening. Not nearly as frequently but still. I give up on safari and using chrome now. It's actually noticeably faster too.

I just got a window on Safari with a web address of globalpcscanner.com that a virus was detected by windows and to call a tel #, I can no longer use Safari, the same window opens every time I try to access Safari. What the ....

I am now using Chrome. I have a Plus.

You can't just close that window in Safari? Sounds very scammy to me.

Nope, I can only click on OK and it just stays on the screen and I can not access bookmarks or open any windows.

I am not about to call the number. I hope others do not get this problem. I was not going to start a new thread, just picked this one.

Funny it's saying Windows detected considering you're on iOS. This is a different issue. You should start a new thread.

Clearing Safari History and Website Data--works for a while

About the only thing I have found is to Clear History and Website Data (Safari Settings.) This works for several days. Maybe Safari can't keep up with all the open tabs that result from a few days of browsing?

Today when it crashed I took a few minutes and closed all the open Safari tabs (which is a pain). Now it's OK again. Wish there was some way to limit the number of tabs that Safari keeps open. PS: I also found a similar thread over on the Apple forums. Some have even had their phones replaced and the new one does the same thing.

Still more of an annoyance than anything, but if anyone figures out a solution (that works for more than a few days) let me know!

iPhone 6 plus landscape crash fixed! 1/6

After multiple attempts of trying to get this issues fixed by with some of Apples upper level technicians for over a month apple has finally provided me with a solution.

According to Zainab Sadoun "coroporate executive relation" and her team of engineers, currently Apple is aware of this issue and does not have a solution. After speaking with multiple techs who all blamed the issue on iCloud safarri bookmarks, two phones later, and 1 month of time sending crash logs back and forth fix was quite simple there is no fix.

Anyone one experiencing this issue should do the following:

Contact Zainab Sadoun: informer her of your issue. Ask for a gesture of goodwill for dealing with the problem.

Unfortunently when asked to provide the the failure in writing I was denied. She said Look for a fix in one of the upcoming IOS releases.
AS for me I will take my iphone 6plus back the 6 does not have this issues.

Safari crashes when rotated to landscape on iPhone 6 plus

As much as I love my 6+ I too am plagued by landscape operation in general on my phone... Especially in safari. Also terrible issues with 3rd party keyboard again especially bad when in landscape mode.

I have the same problem - Safari crashes very often when I rotate to landscape mode. The iPhone was not set from backup initially - it was set as new. I tried different workarounds and the only thing helped be is to close all other tabs/pages in Safari. It seems they doing something on rotate with tabs even after iPhone restart. I know the tabs are fake (they keep only url and thumbnail) but killing them did help. So, now I periodically clean as soon as start to have Safari crashes on rotate.

I tracked this down to having too many tabs open in safari. If you kill off tabs safari can rotate all day long. It doesn't solve other issues with safari crashing in heavy websites but it definitely takes care of this specific crash. Not sure if iOS 8.3 solved the issue tho.

Here are my observations and fix that worked for me:
  • Symptoms are that webpages loaded in Safari in portrait mode crashes Safari when rotating into landscape mode.
  • Safari may also crash when the bookmark symbol to the left of the URL box is pressed.
  • Has been observed on same iPad using iOS 7.x, 8.x and 9.x through time.
Seems to be somehow related to corrupted Bookmarks.
Why it triggers a crash when rotating the ipad I dont know.

FIX:
  • Goto Settings > iTunes
  • If Safari data sync active > disable Safari data sync
  • If Safari data sync disabled > first enable (wait a little) and then disable Safari data sync again
  • When Safari data sync is disabled it triggers a popup message asking what to do with Safari data on local device
  • Select "Delete All" to get all local Safari data wiped by iOS
Now Safari bookmarks and landscape rotation works again without crashing Safari browser!
