Since installing iOS 5, I've had more app crashes than ever before, so roll on the next update.

Same with me. First gen iPad and after upgrading to IOS5 more crashes in many apps. Hope they get an update out soon.

I have had a few crashes with Safari on my Ipad2 , but most of the crashes are coming from the new Facebook app. Crashes a minimum of 2 times every time I use it. Also Flipboard has crashed, never had a problem with that before the update.

Safari crashing on me regularly now. iPad 2 and iOS 5. It has happened 3 or 4 times today already.

It did not start until the past few days. It did not start immediately upon the installation of ios5.

Original iPad here, iOS 5, Safari crashes every time I use it, and more than once if I use it for more than 10 minutes. Very frustrating, iOS 4 Safari seemed really stable.

At this point, I think I may keep my iPad 1 on 4.3.5 as it works very well. The only issue so far for me is the new version of Numbers is iOS 5 only.

Solved it!!

Hi,
Had the exact same thing, and i've managed to solve it:
Open some link that will run safari (open it from the mail app or some other app)
Safari with then launch and start loading.
Before it crashes, press home button to minimize safari
And shut it manually as quick as you can.
(from multitask bar)

I believe that it clears some bad cache,
Anyway it worked for me.

Enjoy,
Avishay

My Solution

I had the same behavior. Since I upgrade to iOS5 my iPad 1, my Safari was crashing on me each time I tried to type anything (in the search bar or in the address bar). Whenever I touch on the + tab button it created a tab and then immediately after crashed!

I tried reboot / hard reset / cache clear / etc... nothing helped

Whenever I was syncing with itunes i had a weird message about my Bookmarks being used and then I though of my tweaking on my iOS4 version where I played around with the cache file of safari and probably messed-up the permission of some files.

I then jailbreak my iOS5 and ssh to it and looked at the permission for the following folders:
/private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/Safari
/private/var/mobile/Library/Safari
/private/var/mobile/Media/Safari

They were all own by root in group wireless so I changed them to be owned by the user mobile
chown -R mobile:mobile * in each

and miracle happened! it all works now.

My 2 cents. Hope it helped some of us.

I gave up using an iPad 1 over the constant iOS 5 crashes, went back to a laptop.

Apple's policy of not letting users downgrade to a better working OS version is extreme?

I've also found another bug in iOS 5 and it's with the proximity sensor. I'm back to having my calls moved from normal use to speaker mode because the screen doesn't switch off.

iOS & Safari - Up & Crashing!

Yep! Same identical Safari problem since installing iOS5 on this 3GS. No other observed problems

Add me to the list of annoyed people with the numerous crashes in Safari in ios5.

One thing I did that seemed to cut down on the number of crashes I was experiencing was to turn off the multitouch gestures. I don't know what one thing would have to do with the other but I went from several Safari crashes a day to maybe one every few days.

have you tried Atomic Lite, or SecureWeb as less crashy browsers until Apple updates Safari?

I use Atomic Lite all the time. The problem appears to be in WebKit (all the browsers have to use Apple's rendering engine), because Atomic Lite does crash from time to time, usually when opening a complicated page. When I use Atomic to post in this forum, I touch the text field and the keyboard slides up and right back down: I usually have to do this about 3 times before it stays up.
