Safari vs. Firefox makes no difference

And if I try to browse a website at 127.0.0.1, it STILL takes a long time... I'm baffled.

Okay, this I did not know about. Thank you. How do I actually do all of this?

Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Network.

Select the network connection service you want to use (such as AirPort or Ethernet) from the list, and then click Advanced.

Click DNS, add (+) or delete (-) any entries as you see fit. Depending on your setup you may not be able to delete (the grayed out) entries. I think this may be because in these instances either the modem (?) or router (?) is actually the device that is set to determine your local DNS server. Not sure on that one.

You can try using OpenDNS

When you’re finished, click OK.

From the macs help menu...
To test your DNS server:
Open Network Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Click Lookup and choose “Default information” from the pop-up menu.
Type a domain name address (for example, www.apple.com) or a numerical IP address and click the Lookup button.

...You should get results back essentially instantaneously.

I dunno if you still have this issue but I do. I have Snow leopard. I don't know what causes it actually. however, if I don't close safari like 2 days or I play fm 10 or something else and some time after I open up safari and it is slow. I cannot scroll down in facebook smoothly , or cannot open other pages. However quitting application and reopening it solves the problem.

it has nothing to do with dns I suppose. i am using chrome for 2 days without closing it and now slow down till now.

did any1 solve this problem? because you know restarting can be quite annoying.
