Doesn't look like an OS, platform (M1/Intel) or machine issue
No it doesn't. Especially with such a variety of Safari versions across various operating systems and hardware all affected equally and at the exact same time. And yet, there are a few in the Apple forums who happened to do an update yesterday so therefore this must be Apple's fault.

original version: And yet, there are a few in the Apple forums insisting this is Apple's fault caused by a Safari update, which would be a neat trick when Safari was not updated yesterday.

MacBook Air here, Ventura 13.1 update and having the same issue. VERY aggravating. It starts scrolling on its own, and the only way to stop it is to completely close Facebook. Definitely not an OS or device issue.

I have not installed Chrome on my fairly new M1 16" MBP and really don't want to do so; FB is not worth it! I do, however, still have Chrome installed on an older Intel-based machine so I suppose if I really get the urge to catch up with FB I can always fire up that machine to take a look....

Or if you have the Facebook app on an iPhone.

It's clearly got to be something going on with FB rather than anything with Safari or MacOS..... Are there any reports from Windows users coming out, too, with complaints noting the same situation we have?

I use FB only via its website, and only when I'm on a computer rather than when using my iPad or iPhone. I don't need or want its app on any of my devices; just going to the website when I want to look at what's new there is enough for me.

I agree with you that it's a Facebook issue. Yes, I have read a few reports of Firefox, Chrome, and not sure about Windows. But considering this is likely a client-side code issue, I can conceive of a situation where HTML, CSS, or JavaScript could be completely incompatible with all versions of Safari and yet only incompatible with certain versions of other browsers.

Changed User Agent to Firefox MacOS, problem still occurs. Changed to Chrome MacOS and FB does not load. Changed to Microsoft Edge and the style sheet goes cattywampus and I get browser not supported error.

Me too. He said Safari 12, but this is not an option in Safari 13, which does not work either.

Yeah, I'm not seeing that option. Unless you can type it in as custom. I've never had the need to make any changes to the user agent so this is my first time doing so.

My homepage on Facebook moves up and down by itself and others seem to be having this issue.
To make sure it was a facebook and not Apple issue we had some PC users says they are not having this issue.
This isn't the only issue with Safari with Ventura, I also get a memory warning when on Doordash and that never happened before.
My computer was going really good until Ventura showed up

Running an M1 iMac on fully updated Ventura. Facebook scrolling is awful; it starts out ok but ends up jumping about with threads vanishing. It is unusable. On Chrome it is absolutely fine. I have tried clearing cache and history to no avail.

Any ideas? Is this a known issue?

Thanks
Colin
Same here, happens on Safari but not Chrome. On Apple's support site someone said that they reported it to Facebook. I don't think that Facebook is going to fix it. For now, I'm stuck on using the Chrome browser for Facebook but I don't like it.

Exactly. It's like infinite scroll is being triggered constantly and the new content is pushing the page content upwards. Instead of scrolling, it's loading in flashes or bursts. I can force scroll back to the older content, but it only stays for about a second before it flashes out and is replaced. Actually, the way it's loading the new content is browser default as opposed to an auto-scroll. But in this case, the page never stops re-loading new content over old content, and new content should be loading below without pushing the page up. This is a huge Facebook screwup.

Completely unusable.
I agree. I think it has some connection to the double scroll bars on the right.

I am with you on this. I like Safari on my Mac not Chrome. Frustrating.

Doesn't happen with Chrome but the same issue appears when using Anwhere for Facebook which is a Facebook app I downloaded from Apple's app store for Mac.

I just tested it on my ancient 2010 15" MacBook Pro running High Sierra and the issue also occurs the same as my M2.

That should be enough to prove to anyone that this is a Facebook issue. Safari 13 on High Sierra has not been updated in months. Not to mention that not everyone applies updates all on the same day, and yet somehow this problem started for everyone on the same day.

It does not seem to affect Safari on iPhone although it's possible people reporting this are simply using the iOS Facebook app.
