nope i don't have any of those installed.

Give Youtube5 a try. It converts Youtube Flash video to HTML5 video. Most likely not a solution as only converts Youtube videos and not all embedded Flash elements but could help troubleshoot the cause.

Next time the crash occurs, post the link to the source (video/website) that crashed your browser.

youtube doesn't crash my computer (anymore), nike.com does (the entire website is flash)

Just visited Nike.com (en_US) on my macbook and it worked fine for me.

I am using Safari with Plugin Customs and GlimmerBlocker.

That website does seem buggy in general so I am not surprised that it is causing problems.

ya, well flash sucks on mac so that's why it's buggy i guess. i never had problems on other computers or browsers.

o well, gonna use google chrome full time from now on.

Funny Chrome works without any issue as it is based on Webkit, which is the same foundation as Safari, and uses the same version of Flash?

Some webpages will be problematic for some browsers if the web developer did not tune a CSS for the specific browser. This is often the case for Webkit based browsers as they hold only a small percentage of the browser market share that is dominated by IE and then followed by Firefox. But over time this is being eliminated as Webkit based browsers become more common, especially in the mobile browser market where Webkit is used in iOS, Android, Nokia, BlackBerry (6.0), and etc.

chrome uses a different version of flash.

but this pisses me off so much.

either:

Use Chrome, computer gets hot (70c) get stupid CPU speeds while youtubing, or watching/browsing flash content

or

Use Safari, computer stays cool and fans don't spin.

i'm still trying to get to the bottom of this...

chrome uses a different version of flash.

Chrome uses the same version of Flash but Flash is built in and included with Chrome.

Have you tried Youtube5 for Safari. Converts Youtube, Vimeo, and Facebook videos to HTML5. Sometimes a little slower loading but much less demanding than Flash.

incorrect. chrome has a different version

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Macintosh - OS X Chrome 10.2.154.13
Macintosh - OS X Firefox, Opera, Safari 10.2.152.26

and i've stated many times it's not youtube that gives me problems.

go to www.nikeid.com, and try to make a custom shoe. it freezes on that page. it will work for the few couple times, but then freeze.

gonna do more testing on firefox and opera using the same version of flash.

(btw, this happened before the newest version of flash...)

Thanks, did not know that. Chrome updates coincide with Flash updates so thought used same.

So, do you have problems with chrome or safari? Chrome using a newer version may be a factor.

When Flash crashes in safari you will usually see "plugin failure" in the Flash frame and safari will not crash as flash runs in a separate process.

interesting... because i know what you're talking about (and remember this new feature being added) BUT my entire computer locks up and i can't do anything at all.

the problem is on safari, chrome runs fine and i would continue using it, however when i watch a youtube video the computer gets really hot (in the 70 degrees+). with safari it stays cool (in the 50 degree's)

i went into console to see what the log said during the crash.

first it was google and i completely removed anything google related from my computer and it still crashed. i posted earlier saying how the problem became apparent after installing chrome... but i guess that wasn't the end of it

i try to run the page again and it crashes again. i restart, load up console and now it's GROWL.

so i:

- disable growl
- load the page multiple times and it doesn't crash

- relaunch growl
- computer crashes instantly

once i get back into mac os after restarting, i update growl and repair permissions in disk utility and so far it's running fine but i'm not convinced just yet.

"Custom build it" works fine on both my machines but I do not think the issue
is Flash as that specific page requires Java as well.

Screenshots of console and activity monitor would help.

Default install of growl does not interact with Safari or Java? Did you add any extra Growl scripts to make Growl work with Safari or Java?

I do not get a total system crash like yourself, but I can cause "custom build it" to stall on load if Growl and Java are both enabled? Weird?

This stall always occurs on my MacBook and usually occurs on my Mac Mini?

That google keystone daemon (looks for updates for google software such as Chrome, Google earth, Picasa, & etc) often causes errors and is most likely unrelated to this problem. To eliminate this problem, delete the plist file for the launch daemon located in ~/Library/Launch Agents (I think you may have already done this).

The issue with NikeID website is definitely related to a conflict between Java and Growl as I can cause a stall but not a full system crash.

Possible solution

I just read a few sources online that state reinstalling Growl can often fix such conflicts. These problems are created after major system updates due to components being used by Growl being modified during the update. Issues that are not corrected via a reinstall may require an update to Growl to fix.

i've re-installed growl, but the problem is still there. it's definitely the program.

i also deleted all the cookies from nike.com

do you know of any alternatives? i'm using it only with Adium

removed growl and it crashed...

nothing in the console log either

gonna try re-installing java?

Re-installing Growl did not solve the issue for me.

Some sources also recommend reinstalling Java so that is a good idea. It is definitely a Java issue.

Sorry, do not know of any alternatives to Growl.

re-installed java and it hasn't crashed yet. loaded it a few times.

watch i jynx it lol

i gotta clear cookies each time for it to work + i can have growl running.

anyway to make safari NOT accept cookies from nike.com?

You can set accept cookies to never in the Safari preferences but some websites will not work if you do this.

Some users recommend Safari Cookies because you can set it to save cookies for particular websites while it deletes all others upon exit.

It is based on SIMBL which has caused instability in the browser in the past. It is free so giving it a try won't cost anything.
