Safari freezing computer when opening new tab

I run a MBP early 2008 2.5 Penryn.
I have 6GB OWC RAM and a 500GB Hitachi HDD.
I run SL 10.6.2.

From time to time, Safari freezes my computer for a time between a few seconds up to about 15 seconds, when I open a new tab with "CMD+T" or a new window with "CMD+N".

As the whole computer freezes during this time, it is pretty annoying.

Does anybody else experienced this?

Try removing any plugins you might have installed. If that does not work, try Resetting Safari from the Safari menu. If that still does not fix it, try removing the com.apple.safari.plist file from ~/Library/Preferences. Finally, try reinstalling Safari from the Optional Installs on your Snow Leopard Install DVD.

Sorry for the late reply - didn't follow the thread.

Neither didn't work.
It might be connected to my hdd being more than 50% full and fragmentation.
