This happened to me 2 or 3 times yesterday, all on different websites. I'm not sure if it is some sort of bug, or if it was something I was doing.
Just browsing the web, different sites. Then the whole page would go gray (but not the rest of Safari, like the address bar or favorites. Then I couldn't click on anything on the page, or re-load. If I made a new window or tab, it displayed fine. I could close the grayed-out tab and load the site back up and everything was fine. The second time it happened, Safari crashed.
Any ideas?
