Since couple of days ago my battery seems to drain bit faster compared to last week. I notice that safari usage is high on battery usage statistics. on the 24hrs tab it shows 30% and I didn't use it that much. To be honest I used flipboard, facetime & tapatalk most of the time and I probably have used safari for not more than 5 minutes during the last 24hrs. I haven't opened tabs on safari either and it's not running in the background. Has this happened to anyone before?

Not sure what to tell you other than maybe using tapatalk does somehow invoke safari in the background to access forums? Or, whatever you were doing in safari was very battery intensive. Maybe certain sites with lots of graphics or videos?

Well I haven't been using Safari since this morning and now it shows 33% I have been using tapatalk since last year and never ran in to this kind of trouble.

I thought it was Safari at first. Then I try to use other browser. Same issue. The common thing is with iOS 8. All browser use same webkit. Thus I believe it is more about webkit issue

I have been using 8.1 since beta and this never happened. I don't have that many apps either and not really a fan of mobile browsing. Guess if this continues then I probably have to do a restore and setup as a new device.

I think I found what's causing it. It's the iCloud safari sync. I turned it off and after few hours it went straight to 5% :D

I'm surprised this was implemented so poorly that it would waste so much battery.

Now I know to turn this off when I'm on trips where battery life is a priority. Luckily you can just turn it on and it will merge everything again. :)

Not really sure whether it's the iCloud sync on the iOS side or the windows iCloud control panel.

Can you break down the total percentage?

Safari @ 30% isn't much if the phone is 70% idle. As more and more apps use battery the percentages spread out more.

I haven't taken a screen shot of it but there is a clear difference having it turned off. Day Yesterday over night it drained 15% battery after a full charge and this morning I noticed that the battery is at 99% over night.

Maybe it the stupid way Safari is allowed to have unlimited tabs.

It's 09:01. I've been up since 07:30 and my battery has gone from 100% to 57%.

It's an absolute joke.

Yes I have closed all apps and rebooted.

Well at least for me I don't need it. I am not really fan of mobile browsing so I have no need for safari sync. Was it safari causing problems in your case?
