So recently I started having big problems with Safari not responding as quickly as it should. It can sometimes take up to two seconds for something to happen when I click for example the URL bar or the "New Tab" icon.

I recorded a video showing what i'm talking about. You can hear the moment I click the trackpad and how long the delay is.

My SO is having the same problem on her Macbook Pro as well. Mine is a 2017 MBP 13" and hers is a 2015 model.

Did anyone else experience this? I've tried Chrome and it doesn't have this issue. I don't really want to switch though, due to battery concerns. How would I go about solving this?

Same problem here plus some other little things (see my post) that push me toward using another browser. As things are nowadays with Apple, try not to find a solution within Apple. As far as I'm concerned, Safari has always lagged behind. Too bad cause I'm an addict to Apple integration or echosystem.

I actually managed to find a solution! The response time is now pretty much instant when I click the address bar. I still have some delays when opening new tabs.

Try changing the settings to this:

(specifically talking about the Smart Search Field settings)
