Safari iOS5 tapping link to open in new tab doesn't work

Since installing iOS5 onto my iPad2 I've noticed that links opened in new tabs don't work. Say I'm reading a page and tap a link, which opens in a new tab. The URL for the new tab is blank and the page contents is white and nothing loads. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't remember it happening before the upgrade.
