I often get the beachball, and sometimes it becomes irresponsive, when loading pages from myspace, or camcorderinfo.com

and it is pretty irritating......

I still love and use safari though.

I find Safari a bit beachball-tastic, so I use Camino. There's some great features in Safari, but it does always seem slower than both Firefox and Camino.

I'm going to switch back to Webkit when they fix the text box bug.
The current textarea problems are soooo worthwhile though. When the work is done, WebKit-based browsers should finally be able to handle wysiwyg forms.

No it's not. Just because you prefer something else, it does not make Safari 'total junk'.

I actually don't find anything that I prefer with safari over my customised firefox, buy yes, I would not call it 'total junk'. I find safari slower and less compatible with websites. This thread would not be as popular if he said what he thought, probably something along the lines of 'argh...why isn't safari as fast and CPU un-intensive as I think it should be'

safari uses just as much cpu power as other browsers. they use the same flash for both browsers. if you update flash, it will be updated for all 4 internet browsers. (i just had to include shiira and camino)

flash is the number one performance hitter. there should be some ad blockers that prevent ad-type flash to load and run, and there's others that loads, but just won't run it. the first kind is better.

second, it's recommended to trash the prefs and plist (never trash bookmarks.plist though)

repair permissions. it should help a bit, and can possibly fix the problem.

ram can help if you have a lot of webpages, and lots of tabs.

i'm not sure about this, but you can revert to a previous version of safari, and see if that can fix the problem. get it from your instalation disk with pacifist. i never did it before, so don't blame me if something goes wrong here.

see if there's other programs or addons that can affect safari. installing plugins and mods can affect safari stability. uninstall those and see if that helps. there might be currupted lists, prefs, or files that can cause the plugin not to work. my safari used to crash a lot when i enabled both safari's default ad blocker and pith-helmit. after disabling safari's ad blockers, there wasen't any problem.

look up in macrumors for other methods and advices to help your computer.

Safari isn't junk but it's not always as fast as "everyone" wants to believe. Firefox version 2.0 is handling Flash a lot better than it did and I haven't had it crash on any MySpace pages unless the MySpace servers stopped responding.

However, the Flash plug-in was just updated this week so you should probably get that to see if it helps. Try VersionTracker, MacUpdate, or Adobe for the latest version.

No doubt, I'd love to be using Webkit......... but those textbox bugs annoy the hell out of me! Even when I click in it and try to scroll to the top or bottom with the arrow keys it messes up. :(

I don't see how they can ignore this bug for so long.
