Bug still happening as of Sequoia 15.0.1, Safari 18.0.1. On most login forms, when the password is being typed when hidden (showing as •), the first 2 characters get converted to a bullet and whitespace ("• " without quotes). Happens with the on-screen keyboard too. Only on Safari, not other browsers. Login fails if I don't manually correct it.

Here's a screen recording of the issue:
Reported to Apple when it was still on macOS 15.0.0, Safari 18.0.0. Hasn't been fixed after upgrade.

Also, another issue with Safari: it forces itself to appear over TextEdit even when I click back on TextEdit. I often have to minimize Safari to get back to TextEdit.

Anyone know of a fix for either issue above in the meantime, besides using another browser?

MacBook Air M3, 16GB RAM, most of the 512GB storage is free.

Bingo... found the issue (for the password bug). It only happens when "Correct spelling automatically" is on (in System Settings > Keyboard > Text Input > Input Sources > Edit). Once I disabled that, no more issue with the first two characters in a hidden password being replaced with a bullet and whitespace.

Definitely a bug that needs fixing but at least there's a workaround for now. I always disable autocorrect on all my devices anyway, guess I forgot to do it with my new MacBook.

As for Safari forcing itself over TextEdit, if anyone finds a solution, feel free to share.

Wow, this Safari password bug still exists in macOS 15.1 and Safari 18.1...
