To my eyes, ProMotion is not working in Safari on the new M1 Pro MBP—scrolling appears locked to 60Hz.

Looks fine in Finder, Messages, etc.

What gives?

What does www.testufo.com show? I think Apple locked latest version of Safari to 60Hz? Compare with Google Chrome.app which seems to work fine.

My new 14 inch shows this on Safari:

and this on Chrome

Has anyone tested the new Monterey beta to see if Safari is still locked at 60Hz?

I am now. The latest 12.1 Beta (3) (21C5039b) seems to have 120Hz on Safari scrolling. It is definitely smoother. I usually run on a 60Hz screen when I work so I can definitely tell the difference when I am on the laptop screen now.

What about Blur Buster's UFO test? Is it still locked at 60Hz in Safari? Chrome can show more than 60Hz.

It can show 120Hz, but only through tricks. Please check my thread on this.

It looks to me like Apple is treating ProMotion as 1/2 the refresh rate in Safari for some odd reason. Once the browser is "tricked" into 120fps mode, it does stay at 120fps even after testufo.com as a tab has been closed. It persists even after sleeping.

i made the trick but it stay at 60 on testufo... any idea why ?
i choosed of course promotion in settings and made restart of safari .

That was indeed what I was writing above
oops..I mean to quote the post you quoted, not your actual post. I downloaded the tech preview safari and still doesnt work.

However..Chrome works fine at 120fps..tested via testufo.com

I’m actually getting way better motion and video in Chrome on 13.0.1. Went to watch the World Cup on Fox sports and was getting like 360p in safari and immediately 1080p/4k in chrome. Was a mess
