Safari - oddly slow on Catalina

Oddly because I cannot put my finger on the problem.

Search for sites is taking longer than before, opening images on any site is slow (sometimes just does not work) moving from one address to another is very variable (time taken).

My wifi is fine and connection speeds are unchanged.

Mail is also slow IMAP moving mail anywhere.

This is the first new OS that I have noticed a performance reduction, so it has stood out.

Anyone else have observations like this.

I have exactly the same problem, I upgraded to version 10.15.1 (19B88) and suddenly even the simplest of sites are taking some minutes to open.

Looking for solutions.

I had similar problem. Not sure if same issue for you, but I have Intego internet security installed and eventually found this was known incompatibility issue with Catalina. Latest update has today fixed the problem. Hope you find quick fix.
