I'm done arguing with you. Last I knew, Safari and Firefox weren't available for System 7, so you don't have anything to worry about.

Is anybody having problems logging into MySpace on Firefox? I try to log in but then I get back to the login page.

My new imac has Safari on it. On my old P.C I used Firefox. Would it be worth using Firefox instead of Safari on my new imac?

I'd be shocked if you find genuinely noticeable differences. It's good to have more than one browser in your dock, though -- you never know what browser will crap out on what page.

I use Camino, Safari and Firefox regularly. On my clamshell I even indulge in iCab once in a while.

For what it's worth, Camino is my default -- in part because of its clean look, in part because of its funcitonality, in part because I like to run and test its nightly builds and in part because I've been using it since it was a baby Chimera.

Claiming performance without back up (which I have) is a sign of fan-boy. FireFox 2 did not re-write the rendering engine, by the way.

You are all about plug-ins. I'm obviously all about performance.

For anyone too lazy to look at that page, here is a nice graphic from it that pretty much sums-up my stance:

In all the tests, the commercial OmniWeb is the fastest yet. I personally switch between Safari, WebKit, and Camino for various reasons. Even a little IE 7 now and then for checking how it renders things. But in terms of FireFox vs Safari - Safari wins the performance test.

1. performance does not exclusively equal to speed, there are websites safari can not display,

2.its called extensions, not plugin, plugins are those small programs that enable content embeding inside browser, such as flash, java, media, while extensions are to extend the functionality of firefox, many functions provided by extensions maybe have nothing to do with surfing internet, such as calendar, weather forecast, altho most of them enhance browsing experience in innovative ways, such as adblock, video downloader, reveal, performancing (blogging) etc.

3. there are optimized firefox builds using osx form widget, such as http://www.beatnikpad.com/archives/2006/12/24/firefox-2001 firefox's open source natura make it possible and easy for developer to customize their idea version, the form widget isn't a big problem in any sense.

4. u are not all about any thing fair, u are biggest apple fanboy i ever know here at mr in past 5 month, I can tell this from all sorts of "apple's products are superior, firefox is crap" posts of yours. and I won't argue with you on this. good luck.

I bounce around a lot. I love the way Safari and Finder work together (disk images and such) but it has some downsides.

Personally, Camino has always been my browsers of choice.

just to show the so called cocoa widget in firefox, link is provided in my previous post

Thanks Clevin, it seems some people (especially danpalka) are rabidly obsessed with anything made by apple. Oh well, it seems millions of users have made the switch and decided Firefox is right for them ;).

In terms of this discussion, yes it does since the distinction was made by Maxwell that there is a difference between performance and expandability. If we wanted to include website compatibility under the "performance" umbrella, Internet Explorer 7 would be the best browser in the world!

Ok, fine. "Extensions."

WebKit is open source!!! what part of that don't you understand? There is even a higher optimized WebKit browser, its OmniWeb, and it's faster than all of them! You can go right now, download all the WebKit source, modify it to your liking, and bulid your own Safari! Wow!!!

4. u are not all about any thing fair

What is not fair? I said (twice I believe) that FireFox is best for those interested in high expandability. I do, however, believe that expandability aside, most users would benefit most from sticking with Safari, because I don't think most people want to bother with modifying their browsers in various fashions.

Yes, I tend to believe Apple stuff is superior. I am a male. So I guess that's a pretty good analysis actually.

I think you raise some pretty good points there. Truth be told, I love Safari, and think it's a great browser. I also adore Firefox, thanks in large part to the Greasemonkey extension. If that thing was available for Safari, I'd be using Safari instead of Firefox...

Firefox looks crap (and cant be bothered with all that extension crap)

Safari is alright

i use camino, dunno why, lost my bookmarks twice

but its the best looking, so i use it:eek:

Opera has all my bookmarks though, backed up

All sounds silly really, but oh well

I'm a recent switcher and on Win I used Firefox, but on Mac i'm using Safari. First i think the natural web browser of Apple should be more compatible with all the other programs. It's fast and does not waste you RAM as Firefox. The coolest thing for me is that you can load many tabs at once. So, if you have many favourite links you can load them without have to click on each link. It's really good.

Firefox has another thing that I like: when you open lots of tabs you can change from one to other more intuitively. You don't have to open the list of the rest of tbas that are opened but not displayed. When you open 100 tabs you miss that function on Safari. DO you know any safari plugin to solve that problem??
