when my mbp first came, i had safari open pdf files through the browser with preiew. for some reason i think i downloaded acrobat reader 8.0. which in retrospect was the stupidest thing to do. though i subsequently deleted it, safari continues to ask for which application to use to open pdf files. this is very annoying.
i have already tried the following things but no avail: any ideas?

1. i did a quick forum search and reseat the webkit kit through command line : https://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-202860.html

2. deleting the adobepreferences from internet plugins folder in libraries.

3. http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070404013904547

i just want to reset every preferences in safari so that safari opens .pdf files on the web through preview.

thanks in advance.

Make sure that the plugin itself is gone. You'll find it in Macintosh HD:Library:Internet Plug-ins, named AdobePDFViewer.plugin (one of your links mentions this, but this is the usual cause when Adobe Reader has been half-uninstalled)

After that, pick any PDF in the Finder, go to Get info, pick Preview for the open with… and tick the thingy to set it for all files like that.
