It flickers "blue" for each page it goes to - even small pages that take less than a second to load.

I'm going to have a seizure.

That's to show if it's currently loading the page, and at what percent the page is loaded - it's really not that intrusive?

You mean as the page loads the address bar fills up with blue?

As the guy above says, that's to show the page is loading... I love that!
    I wish Chrome had that......

Yes, I know it's to show the "progress" of page loading - that's why I mentioned that word in my post title.

But some pages load so fast it "paints" rather quickly - almost flickering. And since removing the search field, the address bar is now longer and that doesn't help I suppose.

Yes, just a nit on my part but I find it annoying. Carry on!

Could very well be. But I think my earlier assessment is the correct one. The address bar is what... a third as much longer in Safari now? This means the progress indicator travels a longer distance in the same time. Hence the "flickering" effect.

Oh well, nothing a short length of duct tape can't fix.

Yeah, not really a fan either. It switches colors from dark blue to light blue when the page is close to loading as well. I don't know, feels a bit tacky. I'd like to make address bar shorter too.

I agree, I don't like it. I switched to Chrome because I like being in presentation mode. Now because of the annoying progress animation, I would require a 'presentation mode' in Safari more than ever to switch back to it.

I don't like the bar, way too much of a windows feel for my taste.

I think it's much more elegant than the old progress bar, and it's helpful even for fast loading pages. I may be the minority here, but i like it! I like the overall tasteful small changes in the Safari UI and color scheme.

I'm glad to see Safari, like Chrome does, allows one to search in the address bar now. I may start to use Safari more.

Sorry, isn't that the same as Lion? Because it also fills the address bar with blue...what's the difference?

Meh. It's overrated. I just Cmd+H to Google's home page. Their search field
has autocomplete. Safari does not (using the Google search engine).

Same number of keystrokes as using CMD+L in Safari (although you have to contend with another window).

What, it does NOT have autocomplete? What's the point of having a single bar then?

    Snip from above:

The address bar is what... a third as much longer in Safari now? This means the progress indicator travels a longer distance in the same time. Hence the "flickering" effect.

Is this a show stopper? Certainly not. I just have nothing better to do while I watch my Apple stock tank.

It provides suggestions in a drop down box. Your text is not completed (in gray) like Google's search engine does. (i.e., press TAB and the search text is completed).

Well, that's better than the obnoxious gray autocomplete...I actually hate it because I always have to backspace or continue typing until it stops suggesting crap.

Counselor, I fear your keyboard has run amuck. Just press Enter. It will only add that gray text to your typing when you press TAB.

Failing that, you can turn this glorious feature off in Google's settings (somewhere).

So far I am stunned at how well Safari is working. Youtube vids play without stutters or slow starts.

Wonder what it will be like in a week?

They should address this issue by adding a fade transition, so there'll be no quick flashes or bright blue vs. white.

CMD+H in Chrome hides it and in Safari, does nothing.

I like it better than the old one, but I wish there was a graphite version.

I don't get it...Safari has had the same progress bar since the first release.
