My website loads pretty fast. Most of the content / ads definitely load before Reader shows up, on my site.

But yeah reader might reduce clicks. Doing an article explaining that this is result of Google's own doing.

Maybe news sites need to move to the current TV show model.

"As I look out over the Gaza Strip, sipping my Diet Coke..."

Product placement FTW. :D

I guess I'm not sure how those people behave, but the page does need to load before you can click the reader option.

Maybe that's enough time for the ad clickers to click?

couple of things. it's hard to say just how much use the reader feature will get. sure, tech-oriented people like those that populate tech forums will use it, but will your average user?

and advertisers typically base their statistics off of click throughs and page loads, so I don't know how they will know if people are bypassing the ads via reader since they're still loaded.

Hey, if web publishers aren't going to clean up their nasty ass sites with hundreds of related links, ads, and crap all over, Apple can do it for them.

Agreed.

How many people click on ad links anyway? I dont think ive ever do. Obviously there are people that do otherwise it wouldnt exist - like spam emails!

Ive been using Instapaper & Readability for a while now and they do the same job.

95% of advertising is pointless & harmful .....

Everyone needs to make a living, but I think some web publishers have forced this kind of thing by cynically splitting their articles over multiple pages, disrupting their readability with text ads, adding those horrendous inline popups and using all manner of flash animated devises. All designed to distract me from the article itself. I tend to think that if they don't even value their own writing, then why should I?

Ironically, those offenders could actually benefit from Reader, because it might be the only thing that encourages people to stick around and not just hit the close button.
