It's nice, but the atlas is an unnecessary detail. Everyone who uses iOS knows what Safari is for - the compass explains that we are navigating - the atlas adds nothing useful to that, which is why Apple removed it - to make the design simpler, flatter - (all this is explained in the ADC WWDC sessions videos).

Out of interest, did you use the iOS 7 icon grid? If not, I would recommend starting to use it:

Perhaps the Atlas refers to the worldwide web?

It does seem that Apple is adrift in a sea of uncertainty.

New icons in pretty and feminine pastel colors alongside of rather bizarre interpretations of earlier styles. I knew that iOS 7 would be interesting, just didn't expect this eclectic mix of mismatched design elements.

Based on articles in the Verge, and others across the blogosphere, many feel like I do. In this new "Post Jobs" iteration of Apple, we're witnessing some rather odd developments.

The fact that we have so little (as compared to the past) in terms of rumors and "leaks" about the iPhone 6 after what has been one of the longest periods of silence. Apple's redirecting of our attention to a plethora of other potential products results in many questioning just what _is_ going on behind closed doors in Cupertino.

The richest company in the world? Maybe you should show them how its done.

What does Apple being rich have to do with the icons in iOS 7? Absolutely nothing.

A lot of the icons look childish and cheap, especially Safari, Reminders, Contacts and Calculator, and I'm not alone in thinking this. In my opinion, there isn't a single icon in iOS 7 which looks better than its iOS 6 counterpart.

These icons may align with the mysterious and magical grid layout which the "world's richest company" came up with, but they still look like crap. Maybe Apple should take a closer look at their perfect grid in the next few betas.

But, that's just like my opinion dude. Maybe you should think of an argument which shows me how the new icons are superior rather than just being snarky. ;)

Other than you stating an opinion this means nothing. Apple being rich means everything. When luxury car brands use your hardware and design as inspiration then you are doing something right. It's understood you don't like the new design, but other people do, so relax.

The more I think about it the more I think Apple should ditch the square grid icon system.

For example. Look at the icons on the Android phone. The phone, Maps, Web browser, email and camera. They are not some picture in a square box. They look more unique. Maps folds like a map. The phone is well... a phone. The web browser is a globe cause its the "world wide web". And the camera is just that. A camera. Also Messages is a message bubble. It's just more unique and different.

But as I stated in another thread.
"I love a lot of the new features of iOS 7. Although I have looked into Android phones a bit (I have an iPhone 4S right now). I'm still up in the air on whether I like the new iOS 7 icons or not. The old ones got tiring cause of the glossy shiny feel but the new ones look too flat. A few apps that come to mind with great icons are Facebook and Google Maps as well as some others from Christian resources I keep up to date on. The icons for those apps are not "3D" with the glossy shiny feel nor are they flat like the new iOS 7 apps. They are solid and bold. They have a good look and feel to them. Apple should take cues from that for their icons. Even Apples Settings, Calculator, Calendar and Maps icons from iOS 6 have no gloss and they look fine. They should have just done the same with their other apps. Just my take anyway."

Again, Apple being rich has nothing to do with the icon design in iOS 7.

Are you saying that small, poor companies can't make good designs?
Are you saying that only rich companies can make good designs?
Are you saying that rich companies are infallible in their designs?
Are you really saying that you're high as a kite?

OK Whaaaaaaaaaaaat

What luxury car brand used the iOS 7 icons as design inspiration?
What does this have to do with Apple being rich?

I like the new design, I just think that Apple cocked up the icons big-style.

What your opinion is, I don't think anyone understands. :D
The icons in iOS 7, in my opinion, look bad; and you're doing nothing to prove otherwise.

. . . Safari's icon has always been a compass.

There's no reason why that can't change . . .

iOS already has a Compass.

Why not have an icon that better reflects the "Function" of Safari whilst retaining the "Form" of iOS 7.

I would hope Apple is prioritizing functionality and bug fixes over app icon designs. The fact some are so obsessed over the damn app icons blows my mind. I want to know that my phone will function as intended with decent battery life. If they can do all that and fix the icons great.

personally i like all icons except ...... game center , reminder , settings ,plus little less saturated greens

I made this to show that by simply making gradients softer, and colours not too bright, the icons can look in armony and not like " the unicorn revolution"

Sigh...

I thought this thread was gonna be an interesting read, detailing the new look and features of iOS 7 Safari.

Silly me. It's just more petty obsession over a damn icon.

Come on, you guys... Really? Are you really that hung up on a freaking icon??

Generally I like what you did here, except Safari which is too bland, and the weather app looks a little stupid with the temp in the cloud.

BMW has admitted to using apple as inspiration for their cars. I never said iOS 7. Your opinion is from someone who can't take change. Deal with it. And to answer your question about rich companies. I would say yes apple can make great design. Until they crash and burn you have no argument against it.

But we're talking about iOS 7's icons here. This is what the entire thread is about.

Why bring up something irrelevant? What point are you making exactly? Why are you arguing with me? You haven't actually made a point yet. Are you drunk?

Your opinion is from someone who can't take change.

I said I liked the new iOS 7 design (BINGO: HE LIKES SOMETHING WHICH CHANGED)

But not the new icons.

Why bring up something irrelevant? What point are you making exactly? Why are you arguing with me? You still haven't made a point yet. Are you drunk?

Nobody is arguing that Apple can't make good designs. Where are you getting these arguments from? It's like you're arguing with a different person whilst responding to my posts. Why bring up something irrelevant? What point are you making exactly? Why are you arguing with me? Are you drunk?

Until they crash and burn you have no argument against it.

Except I have an argument right here: the icons look cheap, rushed, and childish.
How about you deal with it? Ya flaming dingus.

Please refrain from replying to my brilliant posts until you have something vaguely coherent to contribute. It's like I'm arguing with a drunken 6 year old.

But you were perfectly okay with all of the ridiculously ugly icons from iOS 6 and earlier? The ugly Contacts, the cheesy gloss everywhere, etc?

I don't think they were cheesy nor ugly. I really loved how iOS 6 and before looked and felt. I was more than fine with it.

I like the changes made in iOS 7, but the icons feel like a kick in the gut. They're ridiculous. The Safari icon is like something you'd make in MS Paint in 1998, which you'd then delete because it was terrible. The icons really need serious help.

Otherwise, iOS 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 are all PRETTY DAMN SEXY.

0.01% of you are able to stop typing clever, sarcastic replies for a long enough period of time, so as to properly and calmly discuss design, analyse, consider and conclude why Apple do what they do; you're all too busy shouting about how "right" you are, when noone actually cares who's right - we care ABOUT THE DESIGN, as that is the whole point of the thread, no? Yes? Which ... ?

Are we talking about design, or are you all SO sure "Apple's got it wrong"? Maybe your perception is wrong, maybe not - but how can you know unless you allow inward opinion, not just outward.
