Why do we still have a search box next to the URL bar in mobile Safari? Can't they combine it like in OSX?

I wish OS X had a separate search box, I really miss it.

A lot of new comers will not understand the concept of one box for all..I guess that's why..?

When you enter an address, you get a keyboard with the .com (press and hold for other domains) button and no spacebar and a few other characters disabled to make sure only valid URL's can be entered.

It's one of the reasons I use Dolphin instead of Safari, (though I wish Dolphin hadn't messed with their tabs). I can't stand not having a unified address bar.
