I am a long time Opera user. I can't understand why a separate window is required for searches.

In opera you can assign/create a shortcut for searches.

ie. for a google searches you just type

g (+) search term - in the url window

Is there anything like this for safari?

Oh yeah that works thanks

and now I can't remove the 'google search window'

go figure

Keywurl working with Safari 4 now?

I highly recommend Glims. It literally came with 99% of all the addons that I used in Firefox, including Google Previews in Google searches and search-in-URL keywords.

And yes, you can't remove that goddamned search bar.
