Hi all! Sometimes when I click a link, Safari shows: 'Not safe' instead of opening the website. For example when I enter the website chromecast.com/setup.

To open the website, I have to click in the address bar and enter https:// before the address, only then the site opens.

Is this something I can adjust in my settings? It feels unnecessary having to type https:// so often.

Thanks!

There are some Safari extensions in the App Store that will default you to https like “HTTPS Only for Safari” (I haven’t tried it so I can’t say how well it works). I expect Apple will eventually default to https instead of http. So far I haven’t found a setting for it on mobile Safari (maybe I just missed it, or you need to use the profile creation tool to do it). There is a setting for it on the desktop version, and the industry has been moving to push all sites to use https. Technically, it’s supposed to be handled by whomever is running the website, but sites are inconsistent at best in how they handle it. Traffic coming to http(80) should be a permanent 301 redirect to https(443), and many modern sites are configured to do this.

It’s reasonable to file a request to sites to get them to do it when you find one that doesn’t.
