I have an iPhone 17 pro max and safari takes about 10 seconds to open a page when it is cold launched. I’ve tried switching off all extensions, clearing history and resetting network settings. None of those worked. Private relay is also off. Firefox works fine, but sadly Apple dictates they can’t use malware blockers, sorry ad blockers/extensions.

Anyone got any ideas?

I'm having the same issue but it takes even longer. Sometimes 15-20 seconds. And it happens on cellular (5G) or wifi, and across multiple wifi networks. Switched off extensions and that did nothing. Clearing website data and history helps but only for 2-3 days and it's back to the way it was before. No private relay. None of the slowness happens with DuckDuckGo browser or Firefox. Been happening at least since 26.3 beat and I can't figure out why. I have submitted feedback and updated that submission since then and I've seen no action on it.

I have a 16 Pro Max.

What do you mean "cold launch"? Are you force-quitting the app? If so, why?

Only suggestion for Safari is try turning off all the suggestions and preload features under Safari Settings. Might make a difference.

AdGuard can do DNS level ad-blocking if you want to go with Firefox. It just won't clean up the empty space like a good ad blocker extension would do in Safari, but it gets the job done. (Though a DNS will increase your latency, so expect a little slow down.)

Not always. But I've tried force-quitting just to see if that would help but it doesn't.

Cold launch probably isn't what I mean. But for instance, I haven't used Safari for a few hours perhaps and I either click a link from email, or open it and go to a bookmark. Any bookmark. Safari just sits there doing nothing for 15 seconds or more before finally loading the page.

I don’t usually force quit, but if I’ve not used it for a while or restarted the phone then it’s slow to launch. I don’t mind a bit of latency but 10+ seconds is taking the biscuit. I’ll try the dns adguard

I have noticed this happens in Private mode since 24.6 for me. Every search takes nearly 7-8 seconds of white screen before loading anything. I do not use Private Relay at all.

Those of you having issues, can you see if you have "Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection" enabled under Settings>Apps>Safari>Advanced? I noticed this was enabled for Private Browsing only for me. I disabled this and it seems faster for me but it may be a placebo.

Just chiming in to say I have the same issue with my 15 Pro as of iOS 26.4. It is not fixed in 26.4.1.

Anybody want to confirm if this is resolved with iOS 26.4.2?

Somebody posted a screenshot with visual bugs with today’s update, so I’ll hold off personally until it’s more widely adopted.

If you’re on iOS 26.4.1 there is no fireside to this update. Even zollotech says just do it.

I’m still seeing the issue on iOS 26.4.2

Maybe it’s an iPhone 17 issue? WeRE ON 24.6.2 and on 4 devices: IPhone 14pm, 15pm, IPP M1 and IPP M5 no issues with delay.

I’ve had the issue on iPhone 15 Plus, and 15 Pro.

I don’t think i’ve noticed the issue with my M4 iPad Pro.

Anybody on 26.5 RC, can you confirm if this is fixed?

In 16 years of using iPhone, my mom has never complained about a bug. She keeps asking me when it’ll be fixed. I know it’s minor, but it’s so annoying.

I wish the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, it continues. Waiting times up to about 15 seconds before Safari can be operated. I have iPhone 16 pro Max and iPad Pro m4 here.

Sadly the issue is not fixed for me on iOS 26.5. I feel like it’s gotten worse with time.
If it has actually gotten worse then it is possible you are seeing an unintended side effect of security. There were 50+ security fixes with 26.5, 35+ with 26.4, and 35+ with 26.3. Apple seems to have been playing catch up for a couple months now with WebKit exploits. Maybe they are doing a better job sandboxing WebKit off from important parts of the OS and that is degrading performance. Just a guess though.
