Safari, SysPref, AppleWorks, etc. fail to launch

The above applications (plus, others) fail to launch even though their menu comes up in the menu bar and they bounce their icon in the dock. I am running 10.4.7 on an iMac G4 1GHz. Just started last night - didn't do any installs.

I reparied premissions and have done uber restarts.

Help? 🙁

Mind you, this has practiacally remdnered my machine useless.

Try going into Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and selecting the OSX startup disc. Then go to First Aid and "Repair Disk Permissions".

Worked last time I had this.

No nothing, just in Force Quit, I get "(Not responding)" on the apps.

Other user accounts it's acting the same.

I'm thinking I need a reinstall. Evevn the apps that do work take minutes to load.

I did an erase and Install... At least it got me to buy myself a nice external (250GB WD MyBook - FW and USB - $200), and fixed any issues.
