Safari Tabs - odd behaviour

Screen recording attached... has anyone seen strange Safari tab behaviour like this? I used to have problems with pinned tabs unpinning themselves in Safari 13 (and maybe previous versions) and have seen that and other oddities in Safari 14.

I'm running MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

My Safari is using twice the amount of memory than older software versions.

My gripe is that Safari doesn't "hold" tabs. When I choose Open in New Tab, the original tab does not appear when that second tab is closed. I have to go Back to get that original page.
