Safari Top Sites Delay?

Is there a reason for the delay in Safari's Top Sites (i.e. when you load a page, the page is dimmed for a moment, then loads). Is it possible to disable it? (I'm guessing not, but I'm asking anyway)

This is normal. Safari has to render the image and that will take a few seconds.
