Does anyone know how to turn off autoplay of videos/audio in Safari? It's driving me crazy. I don't have Flash installed, so it must be HTML5. When I load certain webpages (mainly CNN.com), ads or embedded video automatically plays.

I've been trying to figure it out since clicktoflash and clicktoplugin no longer seem to work in the betas. I would just be happy to have the audio automatically muted, but the ability to prevent the videos from starting would be better.

In Safari 11, they'll probably decide to introduce the autoplay features from iOS 10 Safari.

Ghostery doesn't get it done either. It works fine when there is a flash player embedded, but doesn't stop html5 autoplay.

Hopefully there is a solution shortly after the final release of Sierra.

Thanks Will and Weasel!

My biggest problem is cnn.com. The Adguard rule posted by avatar-arg will remove the video window, however cnn.com seems to force the video to load and run before the Adguard scripts run.

The page loads. The video loads and begins playing. Then Adguard's rules run and kill the video window, but the audio can still be heard.

I'll see if I can figure out how to modify the script, but I will admit that I'm a novice at it, so I don't know how successful I will be.

If I'm successful, I'll let you know.

You might try using this tool in AdGuard to block that section of the page.
