Safari website translation

Has anyone gotten this to work? I've tried visiting multiple Portuguese sites, but no translation icon appears and it's also not an option in the "View" menu item.

Is anyone aware of whether any special setup is required to get translation working?

Yes, but one would expect most of the language could be translated - similar to British English and US English being almost completely interchangeable...

In any case, none of the Brazilian Portuguese news sites from here work: https://libguides.mit.edu/flnewspapers/portuguese

It's probably some bug in Safari, because translation for this newspaper works https://www.clicrbs.com.br on iOS 14, but not on Big Sur.

Thanks @peter34, but that also didn’t work for me on my iOS 14 (iPhone 11 pro).

I’m curious, what country are you in and what language do you have your phone set to?

Wow, I missed that - weird that they limit in-browser translation, but the translation app is fine... I thought it was all on-device anyway. Thanks, this explains it.

I have the same issue and my MacOS region & language is set to Canada (English).
